Warranty transfer?

Hello everyone,
I'm getting ready to buy an '04 MCS with 18K miles on it. It is my understanding that MINI backs this car with a 50K warranty.......
Will I need to do anything to transfer the warranty over to myself, or does the warranty follow the vehicle regardless of who brings it in for service?

Thanks for any info.
I'm sure to have many more questions in the coming weeks.

Donald

Warranty

It remains with the car until 4 years from date in service or 50K miles whichever comes first. You should notify MINIUSA of the transfer of ownership but any MINI dealer should honor the warranty.

Once the new owner has taken possesion of the car, have he or she call MINIUSA directly at 866-ASK-MINI and with the vehicle's VIN number, they should be able to transfer the remaining balance of the warranty at no charge.

Keep in mind though, that MINIUSA only allows transfer of any existing warranty from the original owner of the vehicle to a second owner only. Consecutive owners, do not get any warranty coverage, even if the car still has some warranty left on it.

Where did you get that info? It's not listed in the "Fine Print" from the web site. Why would it matter how many owners it's had?

Thanks.

I was told by MINIUSA when I sold my '04 MCS to a second owner.

You may want to double check with them, though

I did just that, and here's what they had to say (via email):

There is not a limit on the number of times the warranty can be transferred. You
will have the balance of our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, which is 4 years or
50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

In addition, I encourage you to forward your VIN and address to us, so we can
update you in our system as the new owner of the car. If there are any customer
notifications we will be able to pass them on to you that way.
So it seems that the number of previous owners doesn't matter- so long as the car is still within the warranty period, you can get coverage.

THe car I bought is a 2004..... I'm the second owner so its all good. Nice to know that I could possibly sell it before 50k and transfer warranty.

That is the same information my dealership stated to me when I inquired about transferring the balance of the warranty at the time of selling my first MINI. Donald (Soilsample), you might want to take note.
