Wheels: 15" 5-star rockets or new delta spoke?

I was just thinking about this today since I saw a cooper with the delta spokes in person (hadn't before) and they looked rather good. I really like the 5-star rockets, and those are on my order right now - however, after seeing the delta spokes I'm considering changing... Any opinions?!

Personally, I like the 5-star rockets.

They show more of the caliper and brake disc.

I really like open wheels so you can see inside!

The rockets are still cool, but look a little cluncky to me.

Not that it matters alot, but the Delta Spoke is a little lighter, and I do prefer the "spoked" look

I like the Deltas better, but that's just one person's opinion.

The other thing to consider is that there are a lot more of the 5-star rockets out there, since they come standard on the MCc. I bought a set, with tires, for $100 because someone just wanted to get rid of them.

I also like the Delta's, and they are easier to clean. I clean MINI's all day long and have had my hand in quite a few different MINI wheels. But besides being easier to clean, I also like the looks more.

If you're lookin for opinions, I'd say Delta Spoke.

Thanks for the replies!

I noticed (dunno why I didnt' see this before!) that the delta spoke also have the bolts exposed, while the rockets have some kind of cover over them... How hard is this cover to get off?! I'm thinking of when you have a flat to replace or something, it just seems the rockets might be a little extra work?

The delta spokes are new for '06 models then? I think they have a more 'aggressive' look in person...

I would think the rockets would be easier to clean, no? There doesn't seem to be as many spaces that dirt can get stuck...

Thanks for the close-up Jimbo! Does anyone have a close-up shot of the rockets?

Delta Spokes look great on our Cooper! And since they were released for 2006, they are a bit more rare and may be considered particularly desirable in the future to nit-picky collectors who want same model year wheels to match (as if that is a reason to order an option! ha!)

The Delta Spoke actually replaced the 15" Eight Spoke Wheel like I had on my
2002 PW/B, which was a no cost option to the "holey" wheels

There are small holes in the center cap and the tool kit in the boot includes a little wire hook that is used to yank the cap off. Very easy to do.

If you didn't have the little tool handy, a small screwdriver a pocket knife would work just as well.

Damn! I really like those ones!! Ugh, why do they always have to get rid of the good stuff (colours, wheels....) I'm still torn, but wouldn't be if those were still available

how about that... I never noticed that. I've also found that the lugnut wrench that's packaged with the jack has a plastic protector on the tip and you can just put it in the crack between the cap and wheel and give it a bump with your other hand. be prepared to catch it, but it doesn't leave any marks either. I still haven't pulled my tool kit. maybe I'll do that at lunch if it starts raining

Delta spokes :-)

There should be a little chrome wire dealie with a loop for your finger & a little bend on the other end that fits into any of those holes on the plastic wheel cap. By using that you won't mar your wheels. My MCS with V spokes came with one.

DELTA SPOKES!!!

Deltas for sure. I'm not big on plastic center caps.

Out of those two choices, I vote Delta. I still very much like the holey ones though - they just look right on a Cooper.

The center parts are PLASTIC?!?!

If that's the case, I think I'll go with the delta's... mmm...

Is it just me, or do the rockets look bigger than the deltas?! (IE - less tire showing?)

Hey, thanks. Do you think you might be able to take a close up of one of the wheels like someone did above with the Delta's? Thanks!

Didn't get home until after dark, let me know if this is okay. I can take another tomorrow during daylight if needed.

hey thanks, looks good! Yeah, if you could take one in daylight that would be great too!! Don't want you going out of your way though, so whenever you can that is fine. So what part is the plastic part? The whole circular portion in the center or just the MINI logo area?? Do you think it would be easy to possibly lose the cover?

EDIT: What does it look like with the plastic cover off?!

Damn that is a clean wheel....

And I'm pretty sure the whole center peice is plastic. You can always just take off the covers, and leave the bolts exposed. No biggie, though I think it wouldn't look "right."

Daytime pics, with and without the plastic center piece in place.

It takes a fair amount of pull to take the cover off, I doubt it would fall off on its own.
