Solar or Chili?

I know there's Chili Red. But, I saw a post saying that Solar Red was coming in '06.

It's the other way around isn't it? Chili Red was introduced in '06 and Solar Red was retired.

Tell me what you know...please...

Chili has been a color from the get go, Solar was introduced in 06 for the MC only and was retired a few short months after.

Solar Red was introduced in October 2005 and was discontinued this spring. One of the best colors and too bad it is no longer available.

It looked beautiful with the silver roof and stripes. If it had been available on the S, I'd have been tempted, where I didn't even consider Chili Red.

Don't get me wrong, I love Chili Red, but it seems like everyone and their mom has a CR Mini.

As proof...my mom's Mini...

I second that question. Being a Phoenician, I would say it's here in the Valley of the Sun.

And Doogs, other than the convertible, I'll be joining the "everybody and his Mom/dog" club!

There was no other color for me though!

Not that you haven't heard it before but your photography is SPECTACULAR!

A hobby or are you a commercial shooter?

MotoringFile info - Solar Red

Confirmation of what you all already know:

Sections: New for 2006 Dec 14th, 2005 </B></B>

As the MINI Plant in Oxford gets ready to commence large scale production of the new MINI later next year, expect availability of some options to change. Specifically we’ve learned that Black Eye Purple (Purple Haze in the US), Liquid Yellow and Solar Red will be discontinued from April production onward. We should see a few other changes later in the year as well.

Too bad yellow went bye-bye. Might have gone that way. Seems there might be a yellow in the 2007 line though.

Yep! My parents live out in Desert Mountain, which is in far, far northern Scottsdale.

They have a pretty crazy collection of vehicles (Range Rover, Mercedes G500, Land Rover Defender 90, Aston Martin DB9), but the Mini is hands down my favorite.

When I was out there over the holidays last year, I took it for an early morning drive on Bartlett Dam Road (or something like that)...and it completely won me over. Stunning views of Tonto Nat'l Forest, a nice, winding road, and absolutely no traffic...though coming back I saw at least a dozen trucks hauling boats to the lake.

If you're itching for a good drive, take Pima to Cave Creek, hang a right, and go for a few miles. There's a good sized sign. But either go early, or you'll be consulting the traffic management thread.

Ordered my Solar Red in Mid October 05 before my dealer had even seen one and only had color swatches to look at. They had convinced me the equity in my '02 PW/B was better off being invested on a new '06, and they were right. I basically ordered the same car I had before, but to make it feel new I went with a new color..Solar Red/ Silver and ordered the new stripe as well. I took delivery on Dec 10th and a week later MINI announced the Solar Red would be discontinued after April '06 production.

As it turns out I now end up with a very limited production color !

No official reason was ever given for the color discontinuation.

A little of both. Photography is a strong interest of mine and I am making some money off of it, but not near enough that I could live off of it. I shot the cover of MC2 Issue 3 and have some photos featured inside.

Solar Red! I'm so happy that it's the rarest color. I've only ever seen one other one in person, it's at the dealer here right now so it wasn't even on the road.

Congrats! A cover shot is SWEET exposure (no pun). I used to be in advertising so I've been around shooters of all kinds. Best of luck on getting more work...or did you already?
