to H-Sport or not to H-sport

Hey all?! I just wanna get a general answer here.... not a battle... I saw alot of rear sways go on at the dragon... I mean ALOT! and since I have always had coil overs I never got one... but it's that time... and I am curious of other stuff they make too so this is not just about Rear Sways

I reeeaaaaly liked the 25 mm hollow.... for it was so light... but I jsut wanna get a general idea of whatever one else thinks/has expirenced... thanks!!

even a simple Yes or no will do... whether you have thier stuff or not

Yes if you like

NO if you don't like

I've had two, one on my '04, and now one on my '06. I wouldn't think of going any other way. Very easy to adjust and you can get just the handling you want.

I had a blast at the Dragon with my H-sport competition. I've never driven a MINI with coilovers so I can't compare them.

It's always fun to steer the car with the wheel and feel how much better it wants to turn in. It's even more fun to point the car by letting off the gas then getting back on it. *disclaimer* Not on the Dragon. This was done during an auto-cross.

Alta 22mm is my choice... Heavy duty and makes a diff you can feel. Don't know about 'hollow' though - let's face it - most of us are not racing formula 1's here where every ounce counts.... Go for solid, dependable... not just 'lite'. You driving ability will certainly make up for a few ounces of wieght.

yeah this I agree 100%... I am more just curious what people like and don't... I am always telling people it doesn't matter what brand cause in the end none of us... even the ones who race are using them enough to matter... fast on the street is no where close to fast on the track... and if it is... you are not someone I wanna drive with cause that's how people get hurt...

heh heh.. the rest of your review was great though thanks... that's what I am looking for.... just general brand expirence...

so if someone had three products explode or something... I'll skip that brand.... LOL

I've got the H-Sport comp rear bar and love it. Definitely a must-have mod for spirited driving. I chose it for the zerk fittings and similar price to the RSpeed.

Yes, like it but lighter, easier to adjust and more range of adjustment is the Webb Extreme, also more $$ but If you were considering end links, that evens things out some.

I had the Comp bar for a long time; it was fun in the beginning but later required too much of my attention to keep the rear end in the rear. Much of that attention was devoted to throttle control. If the rear wanted to come around it took a steady foot on the accelerator and smooth counter steering inputs to keep going in the intended direction. Wet conditions required gingerly applied steering and corner braking or the pucker factor would be high. On one section of road, I could go faster with more control in a standard suspended Cooper than with my Comp equipped MCS. Also, ride quality was compromised with the Comp bar rigidly linking the two sides together.

My love affair with the H-Sport springs also waned over time but the adjustable control arms have performed well and the adjustability is very useful. I’m about to rebuild the control arm bushings after 55, 000 miles of using so thumbs up for that product.

If you like running around poles in parking lots and e-brake turns, the Comp bar’s for you. If you spend hours a day every day in your MINI in a street environment, think smaller or stay stock.

YES - H-Sport Comp Bar. Maybe keep it on softest setting for street use.

I may be actually going back to my stock bar. With my current setup on R-compound tires I still have too much oversteer, even on the softest setting. I'm still playing with the suspension, though.

Webb Extreme rear bar probably the best on the market. It is really nice but, cost the most.

I have the H-Sport Com bar and an very satisfied.

Early version black Alta 22mm on the soft setting.
I really have to f'up to get oversteer. Auto-x or street it's a good compromise without having to fiddle at meets.

When I first got the car, I read every thread on sway bars. The opinions were all over the place. In the past I had very thick, solid upgraded bars, front and rear on a Porsche 944 used for autox. Car lowered way too low, pipes on the street when hit the bottom of the car. Bars squeaking all the time

Didn't want that experience on the MINI. I settled on the 25.5mm H Comp because I thought the arguments for thinner bars (less oversteer) were OK if you haven't driven much, but ridiculous if you had. The fact, it had the zerk fittings pushed it over the others.

My wife drives the car to work weekdays and she can barely feel the difference on soft setting from stock. Its still understeers but then again, she also drove the 944 everyday and is used to harsh rides.

well I'm sold... plus... I love over steer... I would always have my back end come around than front push out... but I was always driving RWD before the mini... I do miss being about to steer the car with the trottle...

Yeah...like the roundabouts at Happy Valley Rd. I was doing a ridiculous amount of speed and apex'd the turn and hit the gas and all the Cooper could do is go BBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! WTF?

Go for the h-sport... my primary reason: Zerk fittings for lube of the bushing! Every time you rotate the tires, just pump in a bit of lube and no squeeks!

Some say that the h-sport, even on its softest setting, is too stiff. If you dig around, you can find the % stiffer vs. stock measurements for the Alta bars and the 3 different settings for the h-sport. I'd recommend going to a large local club meeting and trying a few.

I was just talking to Tuls and I told him I UNDERSTEER like a biotch with the settings on full stiff....But I like it that way! Plus mine squeak like crazy but it's because they are rubbing on the body.

BBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The zerk fittings are nice but for $3 and a little work you can add them to any swaybar.
Although my bar is 2 years old and doesn't make a sound.

Chris-
Considering your whole approach to your car, I suggest the Webb extreme bar. I will be the first to admit it is overkill for 99.9% of us. It does look so cool though. I get more comments and questions about it than I do about my Brembos! You could do the cheaper Webb bar too.

Otherwise, H-sport or Alta

I love the H-sport comp bar, set in the middle makes the car feel great....turn in response is quick and the car rotates very well. My experience has been as long as I drive smooth, the back end stays in line, and I don't have any fear of sliding out. But the moment I start to disrespect that bar, with a flick of the wrist the back end WILL slide out...... The H-sport bar with the M7 USS feels very nice and stable on the twisties.

+1 for the H-Sport, and +1 for paying more attention on the medium setting... easy to get caught out if your careless.
