Sad day, stranded in the Mini

Had a full day of errands, car gave me no sign of problems.

Got home, parked in front of my building. Went back to fix the parking job. Car dead! Not even a turn from the starter.

Called mini roadside assistance since I'm still under warranty. Pretty smooth. AAA showed up 40 minutes later. Tried jump starting it. NOTHING.

Car was put on the back of the platform to be delivered at Patrick Mini on Monday.

Sad day...

My theory is that be battery went completely dead, to the point that a recharge won't do it. From what not sure. Maybe the alternator?

This happened to me and I hope what I went through doesn't happen to you.
My car wouldn't turn over but lights in the gauges came on needles moved but nothing else.
What it was is the battery shorted and fried the positive battery cable and a good portion of the wiring harness. Definitely not fun but was fixed under warranty and car is fine now.

I've also heard of alternoator connections coming loose, and sire enough 20 min. later the car was dead. I'm sure Patrick will have most everything sorted out on onday for you. Let us know how it turns out.

I hope it's quick. At least it's a good time to take care of some other warranty work I had.

Hope it all turns out well.

At least you weren't travelling back to Michigan driving through the bum heck of nowhere in Wisconsin with temps at 14 below and a halfshaft breaks. But goodluck with everything.

I had something like this happen to me a couple months ago. It was the battery. Replaced the battery and I was on the road again. Where I live in Florida, the heat and humidity take a toll on them and was told problems or no I should get a new one every two years. Mine was almost 4 years old when it died.

I think mine is just the battery too. I think I might have used the auto window down and close a little bit too much on Sunday.

^^ not sure... if it was just the battery, the car should have at least tired to turn over while it was being jumped.

If I could only get a hold of anyone at Patrick Mini, I would tell you. I've called twice, and nothing. Left VM.

Electrical dropouts like this can be caused by a bad ground.

A major ground location on the MINI that could cause this problem if it's not connecting is in this photo, just above-and-left of the yellow oil dipstick handle:

(not my photo -- just found it with Google image search)
