The latch on the boot of my Cooper will not close. The spring in the closing mechanism seems to function fine, but it will not hold the hook in place. You just don't here that little click announcing the locking of the boot. I have tried all kinds of button combinations on the remote but to no use.

Please, help me lock the boot.

Karol:

By the way, did you use the remote to open the boot? If so you may have gotten the latch screwed up. I did this on mine and I could not get it to latch. What made it work was pressing the manual latch on the boot as if you were opening it manually. This will unlatch it and it will close.

Give it a try.

Thanks, but my dealer has disabled that function of the remote. I used the remote to unlock it but not to open it.

Actually this seems to have been a problem with a few owners. Do a search in both the MINI talk and under the bonnet links. It has been talked about in detail before. For some it's a manufacturing error. Some have been fixed by putting a little lube on the hinge. Sounds like there may be a right and wrong way of opening and closing the boot. Try and search or go through a few pages back, and see what comes up. Good luck

Karol, it happened to me too. If you hold down the unlock button on the key for 5+ seconds it will start to click. If you can't close the boot, hold the button on the key down until it clicks once, then release it quickly. The you'll be able to close it. Good luck!
