i have been trying to get a list of recalls and service bulletins for my car but has been unsucsessful. I've tried my dealer, askmini, NHTSA and alldata to no availe. I suggest minionline keep an up to date list.

I think this would be a great idea! But, maybe it's hard to get accurate info (vs. rumor) for such a thread. I note that even MINI2 doesn't seem to have this, and they're a somewhat more technically-oriented bunch over there.

That is the point. Recall/service bulletin information is hard to get. That's why we need a database. Most manufactures make this information available to the owners, but not BMW. Maybe a friendly dealer, mechanic, or someone whose has access to BMW, Alldata, or NHTSA databases could get us this information.

I agree, a dedicated thread/heading for recall information and service updates or bulletins would be of use. Maybe a nice addition to MCO....

Sure, we can hope... NHSTA data is available online to anyone who looks. No one from BMW (e.g., a dealer service person) would post technical service bulletins in a timely basis if s/he wanted to keep their job for long.

Go look at the threads on official service manuals, and it'll become clear that BMW doesn't subscribe to the practice of making much info public. Actually, my dealer service guy has consistently complained to me that even dealer service doesn't get much useful info from BMW, and he actually learns more -- or at least faster -- unofficially from customers than BMW.

Welcome to the BMW corporate family

alldata recently published the trans cable fix (from last summer), they will probably be a good source over time, just not current with problems (sort of like the dealers)

I like the idea of a database. That way anyone who gets one (recall/updates) can add it there. I've heard that MINI is very selective in sending these recalls/updates out to only the MINI owners they directly affect. All in one place would be cool.

I checked with Alldata, but i was told that although service bulletins are available for "professional mechanics" BMW does not allow Alldata to provide these to consumers. Vitually all other manufactures have no such restrictions.

Maybe a "professional mechanic " with an alldata subscription could tell us about these.

NHTSA is avalable online but is very behind. It lists the manual transmission recall, but still does not have information about the CVT recall or strut bolt recall.

I think the best soure of information is the minicooperonline roadfly and mini2 members telling us about service bulletins that they needed.

I started a thread in the faults and fixes section of MINI@ regarding this isuue and have a list of 10/ recalls and service bulletins so far. I will try to make a copy for minicooperonline.
