Appreciate recommendations about Driving Lights
I have an 05 MCS Cabrio which did not come with Driving Lights. I plan ro add Driving Lights at the same time that I do the Rear Fog Light Kit. I'm fairly handy and can do this myself, no problem, but which set of Driving Lights?
1. OEM? Who makes them. I see that I can get them on ebay from Mini of Morristown for under $300.
2. Other brands that are better for equal or less $$. Only stipulation is that I'd want them to be chrome. They could be a bit bigger than OEM but notb enormous.
3. Do I need heavy duty brackets or are stock adequate
4. Anybody know anything about Hella's
5. Anbody know about any drinving lights that come with the angel eyes, I think that would be cool.
TIA, Michael

I like vintage, so I'm running late 50's/early 60's Lucas Flamethrowers retrofitted with halogen bulbs. They are real chrome and real bright.

Forget the OEMs.
Get some brackets, lots of places sell them...
check out http://www.piaa.com they have a mini-cooper set
check out http://www.hellausa.com, the too have a mini cooper set.
For the brightest, try the Hella FF200s Xenons.
make sure your talking about Driving lights and not Fogs
within the world of Driving Lights make sure you know exactly the type of beam you want. Do you want just auxiliary driving lights ... they will just aid your highs. Or Pencil Beams ... for those high speed highway drives. Check the beam patterns

a white glowing ring around the Super White lamp,
similar in appearance to the headlamp of the BMW

Pencil beams are good, about 5% spread. Just good enuff to get WAY beyond those highs and see in a straight line WAY out there

Of course, the ultimate would be both Pencils and Driving lights in Xenon, These would work nice http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell...e_4000_HID.jsp
both pencils and driving lights!

Can I post another question to my own thread? What's the diameter of an OEM driving lamp? What's the depth of the OEM driving lamp? TIA Michael

My lights
Stupidly, I didn't get the stock lights when I bought mine, as I was thinking cheap... yeah, right... cheap... uh huh.
Well, about 8 months later or so I started wanting driving lights... I had an offer to get them for about 230 for the stock lights and installation from my local Mini group leader, but ended up having them installed by the dealer for something along 500 or 700 bucks... (I forget, between the roof rack and the driving lights... one was 7, the other 5)
My main reasons for having it done by the dealer:
1) the do-it-yourself kit uses screws. Not only can they get undone, but they apparently are a lot worse with rattling at high speeds--stock, they are installed using rivets.
2) doing it yourself is apparently pretty hard to do without installing the parcel shelf--which I didn't want. I guess the wiring requires the kneeboard being removed or something. I forget what our fearless leader told me. He'd done a few and he'd do it only if you'd buy the parcel shelf.

Wicked product guys!! Love em. Do they come with a cover of any kind, so I can pass inspection?
Any idea which brackets I'd need to purchase to mount these up properly?

They are pretty fat, 4" thick. I'm concerned about that. Michael

you do NOT put driving lots where the fogs go ....:impatient
We got it,
AS PER PIAA:
Typically driving lights are mounted above the front bumper about 14" from the ground to provide extra high beam illumination.
Driving lights CAN be mounted below the bumper, althought they will not be as effective because the light will hit the ground sooner.
This post is not a recommendation, and how many of us really use their lights other then for the look.
Some like it, some don't
Thats just the way it is

Here are the PIAA P-9000 mounted on a 2005 HB/W MCS

Another route would be to use the OEM wiring (for warranty consideration) and then use whatever lights you like, with the Madness brackets. I've just ordered everything to do this with a pair of Cibie Tangos.

It looks like only the LED's are lit on that picture... are there 2 modes or something?
Miniworks... I'd honestly be happy with them mounted either way... like "traditional" oem driving lights, or the way you showed them photoshopped. Both options are desireable. Again, are there covers available for these lamps? I think that's especially important if they are mounted lower.
