Currently, there are a lot of threads talking about problems, lack of problems and perception of reliability with the MINI. It makes it tough to form a general impression but I will anyway: the MINI is as reliable as most well-made modern cars. Like all things in this mortal world, it lacks of absolute perfection and this, I believe, is as it should be.

That said, I'd like to poll people who have owned other brands of car and who have owned their MINI for AT LEAST SIX MONTHS. Do you find your MINI to be more or less problem prone than your last vehicle? I'm particularly interested in hearing from Honda Civic owners. Our 10 year old Civic has been the most reliable car I've ever owned and I hope that the MINI will be equivalent, granted that I take as good care of it.

Thanks in advance,

Mark of Pemburnia

Well, my last car was a '90 Chevy Cavalier, so it's not a fair comparison.. but you're going to have to wait a little more for a 1-year test... My 6 month exp. (which is currently including a Western New York winter) is comming up aces..

They just got released in the US 11 months ago. Don't think you will come up with very many MINI responses with 1 yr ownership.

Sorry -- okay, six months, then. I'm just trying to filter out the enthusiams of one week of ownership. Foolish me

Remember, the news never reports a safe plane landed.

For every complaint there are LOTS of happy owners.

I've had 2 minor ones; AM radio band didn't work and my heater fan is noisy.

We are trading in our '96 Probe on the Mini. The Probe has been a great car...outside of the oxygen sensor heading south last year. At 162,000 miles it looks sweet and runs the same...but I suppose we won't get much for it in trade, probably sell it to our son for a couple of " yes..you are GREAT parents!!! (bow, grovel)...now where's the keys??"

I wrote this in another post...but as an owner of one of the first Victory motorcycles...the folks who purchased that bike all got together online ( like this site) and hashed out all of the gremlins that appeared during the first few years of production. Much the same as this bunch, we had purchased a new product and wanted to be in a small group of people cutting a new path. All the trials and tribulations make for a tightly knit group unique to the mass-marketed transportation industry.

It's nice to belong to a select population of risk-takers and like-minded sport driving enthusiasts.

oh, and by the way....we got our production number today!

now if we could just stop rataha from rubbing it in that his Mini is booked for a cruise!

I picked up my MCS pkg. 1,2,&3 and I couldn't be happier. Compared with our last three new cars ['99 S Blazer,'99Gran Prix, '02 Bonneville] the MINI is the best I know I'm still geeked after 10 days of ownership. I owned a '72 Mini panel van in England for a couple of years and there is no comparison to the S. I'll let you know in a coupleof months. Gotta motor.
