Sunroof squeaking
Sunroof squeaking
Well, as to be expected with a used purchase, several small issues have cropped up, most very simple and have been taken care of.
The Mini is still under warranty though
The sunroof now squeaks and vibrates when closing (opening is fine). The tracks are lubed and I imagine it is either the cable or motor. A trip to the dealer is still a couple of months away. Anyone else see this (2003) mini)
Thanks
jeff

Rattles, squeeks, and noises...
This is a very normal problem along with a rattling dash, noise from the boot, and noise from the interior plastic pillars which the front seat shoulder belts are mounted from. Many fixes for MINI noises have been posted and can be found in a variety of places.
If you visit the REME website I have many fixes posted on our FAQs page or our REME MegaBBS forum.

Thanks form the info Sied! I have just returned from a trip and the squeak is more than just a noise! The sunroof shakes on one side and seems to be straining the motor that drives it...
Luckily it is still under Warranty for about 1.5 more yrs! Have also developed a noise under the hood that at first listen sounds like a "ping" I use Chevron 91 octane and do not think it is a real engine ping. In fact it just could be a loose part under the hood )the battery box and air clearer housing do not fit all that well!
I will have to get used to this stuff I guess...the car is a blast and for the $$, just cannot be beat. I have noticed a lack of attention to detail that is not the norm for BMW (unless things have changed.)
I also think much of the "funky" engineering is just from cramming so much into so little
Thanks Again

Hello all...from Gizzer777
HOWARD, IT WAS NOT THE ONLY REASON I SOLD THE MINI (THE EUROPEAN ENGINE FIRE).
It was the rash of fires reported on NAM and then last Jan My Mini got the stuck power steering fan and mal-functioning PS pump. it was flat bedded to Neillo and that was when I decided to get out while the getting was good. As it turned out, I managed to get top $ for mine and then prices really dropped off fast For the 2004's.
Miss all the local Mini owners as well. Hope everyone is well and their Minis are running well. This is NOT MINI WEATHER (JAN 2007) but I do think back to the summer runs we had when I had mine!!!
Believe me. I have thought of getting another but resisted. (was not easy either) That was the most fun I ever had in an auto...even more fun than my old 81 Porsche 911SC, which I still regret selling a long time ago!!!
Regards to all
Jeff
