Saw on X5world the V27 Nav update is available

http://www.x5world.com/navigation-sy...-released.html

Thanks to Appy, V27 is available!!

For those that would prefer a version with a custom X5world splash screen, I am working on that now and will be making that available here soon.

A few notes on the upgrade, but first a reminder that there are risks to doing the upgrade on your own, so do so knowing that risk is present. Although rare, problems can occur if update steps aren't followed properly or there are issues with the media. Such conditions can cause problems with the nav drive which may not be recoverable.

- The image files have been rar'd (compressed), so you will first need to un-rar them. I use a program called TugZip, but there are other programs such as WinRAR that will also do the trick.
- Once you have uncompressed the image files you will need to burn them to a CD-R using a program called Alcohol 120%, which is available as a free 30 day trial here - http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php
- Burn the disk using a high quality CD-R disk at the lowest possible burning speed using these steps:
1. click on "image burning wizard" then click "browse" and find the folder that you extracted the two files to.
2. click on "bmw v27" (there's only one to choose) and click "open" it.
3. Under Image file information, it should list the two files. Click "Next"
4. If you didn't insert a high quality CD-R earlier, insert it and set the write speed at the slowest one (mine was 4x). Make sure the CD/DVD Recorder is set on the right drive.
5. Click "Start" and it should start burning. Once it reaches 100%, it'll be done and the disc will eject on its own.
- Once the disk is ready, follow these steps
1. Go to your vehicle and turn the ignition switch to the first position. Let the navigation system boot up and get into a normal operating mode.
2. Leaving the system on (never turn the power off during these steps!!), go back and eject the navigation CD from your drive unit.
3. Put in the V27 disk you created into your drive unit. Watch your screen and be patient. It says it will take about 6 minutes to do the upgrade, but it doesn't take that long. When it’s done it will eject the CD automatically.
4. Put your navigation CD back in the drive and make sure everything is working properly.

Now for what you have all been waiting for - the V27 download link

From the X5world team - Enjoy!!

Worked for me.Followed instructions to the letter ,no problems at all.From SW 4 - 1 / 60 to SW 4 - 1 / 70

On first look though ,I never noticed any real differance to the previous version.Would there be a list somewhere that states what the update does differant? .

Thanks so much for your update info/ how to .

Did you enable the 3D/perspective feature? On the X5World forums, it says from the Main menu, select Settings then press and hold the button for 10 seconds to reveal a hidden menu.

No I didn`t . I never knew about that, so just went out and tried what you said . Yes got the hidden menu . The last one down the list was PERSPECTIVE and I enabled that , there was no 3D/PERSPECTIVE listing.

I won't get around to trying this myself until at least tomorrow. When displaying a map and pressing on the button, select Map Positioning, and does it still only list North and Travel Direction (no Perspective)?

3D perspective confirmed!!
Just did the upgrade... of v27

In order to activate the 3D perspective you need to enable 2 things.
1. Enable pespective mode. : as rkw said: you need to hold the menu button in the setting screen, then you are able to get into another system menu.. When the system menu comes up, scroll to the next page and you will see 'Perspective'. Click on it to turn the Perspective mode on.
2. After the pespective mode was enabled, select Perspection in the 'set direction': Within the map mode, as usual you use the 'set direction' to set either 'North' or 'Travel direction'.. Now there the third option show up, which is 'Perspective'. Select it then the 3D perspective will be enabled..

My initial conclusion of the v.27 is excellent!!

Well, I couldn't wait until tomorrow to try V27. Perspective view is very nice. Switching between 2D and 3D modes, it does a cool animated tilt of the image.

At first, I thought I couldn't bring up the service menu, but I just had to do it exactly right. Here are the steps to enable perspective view:
  1. Bring up the main menu
  2. Select Set
  3. Press and hold the MENU button for about 10 seconds. The service menu should appear.
  4. Scroll all the way down to the second page.
  5. Select Perspective and turn it on.
  6. Bring up the GPS navigation screen and display a map
  7. Press the **** and select Map positioning
  8. There should now be three selections: Pointing North, Travel direction, and Perspective
As noted on X5World, the perspective view doesn't display street names, although it does show roads and points of interest. I wonder what other changes V27 might have. Surely they wouldn't put out a new release just to add a hidden feature?

Sorry for the moiré pattern in these photos (comes from the pixels on the Nav screen not matching up with the pixels on my camera):

Questions on the new ver. 27....

I presently have a modified ver. 26 with the GB language instead of English. 1. Will I lose the GB language with the new ver. 27?
2. Does the MINI spash screen still exist with the new version?
3. It appears street names still show up in the split-screen view but not in the standard map view. True?
4. It appears smaller distances are still in feet, not yards. True?
5. For MPG calcs, are gallons US or Imperial?

For questions 2-5: yes, the MINI splash screen still appears. In fact, if I don't use perspective view, I don't think I'd know the software was updated. I'm still in US mode (feet/US-gallons). Clarification on the street names: in 2D mode, street names are directly drawn on the map itself (this is unchanged). In 3D mode, only roads and place names are drawn on the map. The right side of a split-screen is unchanged and continues to show the same information including street name.

My NAV is the DVD version, and I can select which language I want in the settings menu. This is true for both v26 and v27 with no patches. From what I remember, if you have the older CD version of NAV, you cannot select language and you have to use patched software to get another language besides US.

I'm dying to hear about it in use - does it slow directions down or anything?

Well, I have had it installed all day today and it performed wonderfully. I have noticed that the graphic rendering is faster as well as the calculations for routes. Personally I give this version a thumbs up for now.

After a day of use.. Except the new 3D perspective, there isn't anything new with the new version.
The perspective rendering is in reasonable speed. I really like this new perspective mode. It will be the best if the perspective mode can have street name display, I really hope BMW will listern and have the street name display in later version.

Hard to say. When I picked up my car v26 came to the internet a few weeks later.

If you want a quick place to read about the update and get it check out my blog:

According to X5World, v27 has been released to dealers in Germany. It may take quite a while (maybe months) before MINIUSA circulates it here, or at least that's how long it seemed to take when v26 was posted on the Internet.

Before this install, my car was working fine for many months with the v.26 firmware modified with the British female voice.
This install enabled the perspective as described, but it also overwrote the British female voice with the American English female.

I imagine someone will eventually post a v.27 image modified with the British female voice, but this one isn't it.
Looks great, though -- I'm happy with it, and I can live without the novelty of British woman telling me where to drive.

mr_edly, on my Nav I can open the Set menu and there is a Language option with the selections USA, GB, and E. I've had this on both v26 and v27. If you have a DVD-based unit, I think you should be able to select the British voice.

My screen shows the same results as here:
http://www.x5world.com/navigation-sy...-released.html

English usa, Espanol, Francais. These same 3 choices are in the Set menu's Language options.
