REME Santa Cruz Mountains Run
Dinner @ Vito's
Hey everyone.... a few weeks back I was cruising down 101 when a Red MINI came flying up on me. Sure enough, I sped up to keep up with him and we got off the freeway and started chatting. Turns out, the guy driving the car owns a restaurant in San Jose called Vito's New York Trattoria. I went with my ex tonight to check it out and see if it would be a suitable place to hold a MINI gathering, and sure enough it is!
Here are the details:
Where: Vito's New York Trattoria
When: Still trying to figure this out... maybe Febuary 19th after the Pulley Party? Caravan down from Oakland and have some dinner!
Who: AT LEAST 15 people. They have a private room they can let us use for the night so as many as we can get should be good!
What: They serve Italian food.... they have Pizzas and beer if thats your thing or nice pasta dishes and wine if thats your thing.... truly an ideal place for anyone!
How much (
):
Pizza - Large Cheese $15.95 + $1.00/topping
Pasta Dishes - Vary from about $10-$20
The food is amazing.... make sure to try the Tartufo Limoncello
Also, if there is enough interest in this they do banquet style food. This would give us the opportunity to have a flat per person rate and depending on how many people come we could have alot of different dishes to chose from....
Please, let me know if you are interested in this! Its going to be a great time with great food. Ideally I would like at least 10 cars to show up to this thing.

South Bay at Vitos
Hi Jason,
For our little club, most of the membership is in the North Bay and surprising enough there are a lot in the Sacramento area (but we have at least 2 people in the south bay as well).... but this sounds like it would be a lot of fun. To work out for REME though, I think it would have to be a lunch or early dinner on a Saturday, so people could have the chance to drive home before its too late.
We should also have a run associated with it that maybe starts in San Francisco and ends at Vitos. If you want REME to plan it I will depend on you for helping with planning a run (I can handle a map and notifying membership). If you look at our club calendar at http://redwoodempiremini.com/calendar.htm you can see we have no events yet planned for the month of June or July. If you want to set a date, lets plan it.
I noticed you have posted this on Norcal as well. I don't think they have any calendar restrictions yet except during the Mini meets west event.

I dont think I can do a run that day as its the same day as the Pulley Party in Oakland. I was figuring that maybe some people from your area would be down this way anyway and would like to join us for dinner. I'm still waiting on more people to say they are interested to set up a time. I can help you with planning if you need to... I am guessing dinner at around 6
Hi Jason,
You misunderstood my post. What I meant was that perhaps we could plan a San Francisco-south run in June or July that would end up at Vito's. This could be in addition to or instead of the dinner you are planning on the 19th or 20th.
We could plan a drive starting in the City around 10am, and drive somewhere, ending up there for a late lunch or very early dinner.
What do you think?

By July its already getting nasty in Santa Cruz with the real wet fog... if you want to head down that way (which I think would be great), maybe we should do it in May or wait until September. You know the weather there better than me... We have a run already planned for May 1st, and it will be a lot of fun... but maybe Memorial day weekend... although June 4th isn't that much later (the roads will be a mess around Santa Cruz on Memorial Day weekend)....

I went camping a few years ago over the 4th of July between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz.... it was like the dead of winter anywhere inland... about 40 degrees, windy and the fog so thick it was like rain.... that same year we went camping at the same location but in May on Memeorial Day, and it was 90 degrees there.
The Northern CA coast has a reputation for miserable fog on the coast especially in July.
Do you want to try for June 4th? Help me out with the run particulars and I'll get it on a map for review and converswation.

JC,
If you want to work a little on a route, give me some input and I will get a map to you for your review... Lets get this trip on the calendar.

I think we should definetely cruise highway 35, at least out to 84 or maybe down to highway 9. Take one of em out to santa cruz, maybe head down to moneterey and to that xx mile drive (what is tha tnumber again?) then head back to santa cruz, take 17 back, eat at vitos, and be on our way!
Jason,
I still want to work on this run and Vitos... maybe for 6/04/05 or we could postpone it to fall. I will work on a map for the "basic route" in the next couple of weeks, but could you fine tune it if I email it to you. I just don't know the area that well anymore.
Anyone else interested in helping with planning this run?

Zied:
Highways 9, 35 and 84 have become speed traps over the last four months or so, mainly due to the cafe racers and their little crotch rockets. Last time I went to Boulder Creek, I saw four Johnny Laws in a 30 mile stretch - all writing tickets.
There are other ways to get to the Monterey Peninsula (good backroads) that won't cost you a day at traffic school.

Thanks... we will revise the route as necessary 1-2 weeks before the run. Other roads may become inaccessible between now and then as well.
