will a harmon kardon sterio work in a non h/k setup

ok i have a 02 mcs with no h/k setup and want to tradev stereo head units with my freinds 05 stereo with h/k

will it be a plug and play operation or will the two stereo head units not work when reinstalled

he is planning to get rid of his stereo anyway so i thought a trade would rock if possible

thanks so much

H/K and standard HU's are the same.

Thats where the similarities b/w the systems stop.

you could, but, imho, i wouldn't recommend it.

right now all of the wiring for the speakers comes off of the HU. If you wanted to upgrade to the H/K system you would have to do the following:

a) Buy the HKAmp and Speakers
b) route all speaker wiring to the back right of the car
c) wire the HU and HKamp together with all new wiring
d) replace all speakers
e)(not for sure) have some sort of reprogramming done on the HU since i believe the signal to the Amp is digital whereas right now the HU is set to send analog to the speakers

I would recommend just replacing the HU with a nicer one with more power... then you wouldn't have to worry about re-wiring everything.

ahh... i get it now.

from what i understand the HU for both the H/K and the stock are the exact same. i've read, however, that the HU has a low output and you may have to get an additional amp to supply enough power to the better speakers to produce a good sound.

Been There Done That

A friend of mine put the HK radio from my 05 into his 02 s. The wiring harness is exactly the same. You pick up the ability to play MP3's and WMA's, and you can add the aux in plug. here is no aftermarket amplifier needed. A 20 minute job at tops.
