On-board Computer Temperature Guage

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find any information on it when I searched.

I'm not sure if my on-board computer is mal-functioning or if this is its' behavior. When I start my MINI up in the morning, the outside temperature is displayed and it is blinking and beeping at me. After a few seconds, it returns to what it was set on. I keep it on my speed.

This morning, as I rolled out of the garage, same deal, but then as I drove down the road it returned to the outside temperature and beeped again at me.

Anyone experience this? Or is my MINI just unique.

I think it's just warning you that the temp is right for possible icy conditions. Sometimes mine gets on that border line between temps and it'll beep every few minutes as it thinks the temp is changing. My mom's Impala does the same thing.

At 37 degrees, it blinks and dings to warn you of the possibility of icing conditions. Cool huh! It's covered in the owners manual.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought it might be the ice thing but at 37 degrees I thought that was a little too warm. I could have looked at the book, too, but then I'd have to walk down three flights of stairs and go outside in 37 degree temp when I figured I could sit here at my desk and ask you guys.

That is cool!

Thanks!

Out here in Sunny California, I have only experienced this beeping one time!

So next time go online and read the book. It's there too. :-)

It goes off at 37 because:

A) It's not real accurate
B) In the shade it could be cooler and ice could form
C) An overpass can develop ice when the temp is so close to freezing...

It's to warn you that conditions may be favorable for icing....
