Ticket for Dark Tint

Got some dark tint on the car from the days of living in AZ. Came back to it today and there was a ticket on the windshield.

Do I just pay the ticket and keep the tint?

If you keep it, be sure you don't mind being stopped any ole time some LEO wants to check you, your car, interior and exterior, and your passengers out. I am not one who breaks laws, maybe speeding a bit at times, but I NEVER want to leave a open inivitation to LAW ENFORCEMENT [LEO] to mess with me. They are dangerous, carry guns and sometimes look at everyone as a criminal at their first encounter with you. The results are very unpredictable at any time, day or night. It's your call, I have debated this here and some guys like to flaunt the law and take their chances. Just not me.

I had real dark and illegal tint for 4 years. I got a $97 ticket once and kept the tint and never got another. With my logic that cost me about $24 a year to have illegal tint, well worth it to me. I think it depends on your location. Sometimes its just random too. I'd probably press my luck and keep it and see if I got another and then decide.

Its kind of like jaywalking to me. How many of you have gotten jaywalking tickets, and how many of them still jaywalk?

Hmm.

I too have limo on the back 3 and 1 shade lighter on the doors. I have had this tint on my last 3 cars. I was pulled over many times for many things in my other cars, always rolled down the windows and never got a ticket for the tint. When I got my Mini, on a hot day, and didnt like the green house I was driving, I went the next day and Tinted it. 2 days later I was pulled over by a LEO in the far-far west burbs with nothing more to do than pull over a Mini, they dont get them out there, I guess anyway, I asked why he pulled me over and he said the tint, I asked if he would have pulled me over if my car had been a Civic? He said maybe, I said I would be sure to share that with the Judge, at which time he handed my lic, reg, ins, back to me and wished me a "good day". They have way too much time, go get a donut. D

I agree, if I get a $24 ticket once a year, it's worth having the dark tint on the front of the car.
Got the ticket on Dickens in Lincoln Park, must have been a walking cop ...

WOW, a walk/bike cop gave your Mini a tint ticket while you had it parked!

BAD COP, I bet they gave a "dog off leash" ticket in the next hour.

Out of curiousity, I assume this is some kind of "fixit" ticket where you have so many days to fix the problem. Do you have to go back somewhere and "prove" you solved this issue? I guess each state is different.

For example, MD law says

"If a Safety Equipment Repair Order has been issued for a window tint violation, the problem must be corrected and the vehicle re-inspected within 10 Days, by a member of the Maryland State Police Automotive Equipment Safety Division. (A.S.E.D.)" http://www.berwynheightspd.com/tinted%20windows.htm

sambusik, if it doesn't have to be inspected to see if it was removed, I would just pay the ticket. Ever remove tint before? BIG PIA!!!

As far as I can tell, in IL, you can just pay the ticket without having to "fix it"

I had a McHenry county cop pull me over, and give me a warning to remove my side window tint (done originally in KY and it was probably 25% Grade...the back is darker...and legal there!). Said if I didn't have it gone - and he or his fellow officers saw me a day or two later even, I'd get a $75 ticket and it'd escalate every time they saw me in my tiny little village here... I was highly PO'd but my hubby told me to go get it done.

So I paid $40 and spent an hour waiting to have about $100 worth (a portion) of window tint taken off my car... I am pretty angry...feeling ***-raped by the state of Illinois lol!!! (Yes I had to get holes drilled in my bumper to put a front license plate on too...when I moved here....my poor baby!!)

Pisses me off because I see tons of rednecks with their bubba trucks and other vehicles in my town with tint - and none of them are getting harrassed!! And my poor baby looks half dressed!!!

Sorry that this happened. Just thin of it this way, when people look over they will see how happy you are driving your MINI.

You didn't have to drill holes in the bumper. You can cover them up and get a tow hook plate mount.

sorry if re-post, but usually they ask that you bring the car into a village
police station and have an officer sign-off that you did remove your tint.
