Why is nobody adding Turbo's

Seen some nice turbo kits for the MINI like http://prostreetonline.com/store/tur...es_turbo_kits/
was wondering why this is not a popular option, with a small boost of 6 psig would you have to do any engine work? cant really find any threads on it so I wanted to see what everybody thought

Mostly because of the gearbox. They simply can't handle the power. Also, the market just isn't there to warrant the development on the Cooper for the cost of the kit - the money would put it over the cost of the S.

Hope that helps!

I think Mini-Madness has a kit and cars with a turbo (NOT twin charge)

Another problem with those $2000 kits is that they still don't include new ECU software, turbo-timers, or any alterations to fuel-delivery. I called around, found a turbo I wanted, and then started doing a lot of research. Basically, to get it installed and working (and that's the rub: it's easy to get it installed, but tough to get it tuned), it would have set me back well over $3K. No thanks.

I'd rather accomplish power gains through bolt-ons and weight-savings. It doesn't cost a penny to take something off the car.

another reason is that the compresson of the piston is a bit to high for turbo. you start feeding boost in to that motor shes gonna go boom.

Another reason is the MINI is too new still. There isn't enough out there that are beyond their factory warranty that people want to work on.

Also the MINI is a good quality car with great resale. Someone has got to want the turbo/TC bad to want to mess with that.

Thats my .02.

Those turbo kits were discontinued as far as I was told by the vendor. Plus, if your going to turbo a Cooper, why put a T20 on it? That's crap for power. I would rather hook up my wife's blow dryer.

No that they have running (tuned) yet...

I hope they get one out to Vegas - that would be fun to race with!

Turbo + Cooper = blow everything, I have talked to m7 and they said their turbo cooper was one of the nicest mini's right before everything went, the internals are cast instead of forged and the compression is all wrong so it can not hold up under the heat and pressure of a turbo
