My Stereo Quandries...

I have H/K. It's a heck of alot better than the standard MINI system. Still itsn't good enough for me though. Yes sometimes I do enjoy driving with the stereo off, but I generally like to cruise and sing to the chick next to me at a stoplight.

My lover just recently had a system put in her 06 civic si, it's freakin awesome, the car kinda is too. Mine is just as nice but...

I have a few problems. First off I have the dreaded "HK Rattle" in the passenger door. That can be fixed right? I know there was a thread around here somewhere that has like a tutorial type deal...

My second problem is lack of volume. I know, I know I'll go deaf b4 I'm 20, but my stereo just doesn't have a third gear. What I mean is that when it's cranked, it's not LOUD at all. What can I do to fix this?

My third is that when I put on any Sean Paul, or Bob Marley instead of my normal Country music, it rattles in the front, it doesn't thump in the back. There are a few songs that just have a "kick" to them a blast you, but most just rattle. Is there anything I can do to move the bass, but not the sound, back, and maybe have more kick?

Things that I need to consider:
I have the factory iPod connector thingy.
I would rather not have a new HU.
I have HK.
I DON'T WANT TO END UP LIKE THOSE RATTLING RICERS.
I'm not quite the expert in the technical part, just the sound.

I would appreciate all the help!

Mikey

Sorry don't know enough about H/K, but I get rattle in the stock system if there is anything in the door pockets, thoughI think you are speaking of a different issue.

add Dynamat or the roofing tar equivalent to the inner doors, hatch, rear floors and rear innder 1/4 panels.

get a Line out adapter from Circuit City or Bestbuy.

get a 10 inch sub and a suitable amp. (my personal favorite is a 1030 Infinity and an Infinity amp.

point the sub either towards the hatch or upwards.

bolt down the licence plate well and add bumpers behind the plate to reduce rattles if neccesary.

as far as loudness goes, your out of luck. thats just the way the HK is. i tried doing speaker swaps in my 05, but it just hurt the system. just adding the sub alone will make a big difference in sound.

doing it this time with a NON HK car, i found the sound to be much clearer and i can push it more so the system is louder all around.

for about $2000-2500 (Parts, install done myself), i have a system thats can be modified infinitly and sounds MUCH clearer and much crisper than the HK.

A quick Google search on "HK door rattle fix" turned up this page:
http://www.jwardell.com/mini/hkdoor.html

As for the loudness and need for more bass, make sure the system is in the "MINI H/K" mode. This makes the rear speakers turn into mini sub woofers. It won't produce earth shattering bass, but definitely more then your typical stock system.

If you are still finding it to be not very loud from different audio sources, I would have it looked at by the dealer. My HK system is loud enough that I'm pretty sure it could give me hearing damage if left on full for a long period of time.
