MFSW + Alpine 9847 - need the truth.

Now that ive finally got my amp where i want it, sirius installed and everything working the way i want it, now its time to start with the final piece of the puzzle. Regain MFSW controls.

Ive read varrying answers on whether or not i can get my northamerican 9847 head unit to work with my steering wheel controls and how well will they work?

I have to buy another HU for another car (was planning on buying a 9847 for it as well) but if i HAVE to get a different model for my MINI, and move the 9847 into the other car, I will. But I really want the same deck in both cars.

If the 9847 wont work, i need to know Which ones will with the least amount of work? preferably no need for additional hardware.

thanks in advance.

My stock answer ... if anyone knows, it will be MikeyTheMINI at NewMINIstuff in England!
See his thread on MINI2 where the CDA9847R is listed.
Often the required connector is omitted for the US market - you will need to determine whether that is true for your HU.

In the connections details at the end of this English manual for the CDA9847R, there is mention of a connector #27 "to vehicle display interface"; I guess that is the one that you need to connect to an MFSW wired interface ...

Does the unit have an IR remote control? If it can't be connected directly to MFSW, MikeyTheMINI sells a universal IR interface. It converts MFSW controls to IR signals (you'd have to install the IR transmitter somewhere near the head unit).

Universal IR remote "PAC SWI-X" is available from many USA places too - but a wired remote is much better option if available

Alpine Cust Svc Tech says that the CDA 9851,9853, and 9855 are all MFSW hardwire compatible with an interface you can buy from Mikey the Mini. It is a hard wire, not an infra red adaptor.

They further say the 9847 requires the PAC SWX interface which is an infra red setup. I'm assuming that even though you are in Canada, you will be getting a North American, not a European model.
