Drivetrain Milltek without resonator .. anyone try ?
Milltek without resonator .. anyone try ?
There's a Milltek on the truck coming my way - and I'm aware the sound is not much louder than stock. Wondering if anyone has tried the Milltek without the resonator - just run a straight pipe from the cat to the Y pipe.
Vendor thought it might be pretty loud without the resonator .... anyone with first hand experience here ?

I have the Milltek header and exhaust. I find it much louder and nice popping, burbling sounds coming out! Try it first as it comes to you. If you don't like it, you can always have an exhaust shop fabricate a special piece for you to try. Might be fun!
I have the Milltek, and at first the noise was almost too much to bear... But after a few weeks of having it on, I beileve it's the perfect compliment to the supercharger noise made by the Alta cold air intake. Now the intake isn't so loud, but I can still hear it.
Good balance imho. (with resonator on that is)

I can help with this!

If you don't like your Milltek the way it comes, sale it to me!
Or I can give you $100.00 & a used Borla system with aprox. 4k miles on it (the louder one) I'm sererious! That's the best I can do for now.
One thing I failed to mention .. this Milltek is for my '05 convertible - my choices are VERY limited - short of a 100% custom job. I'm thinking I'll have an exhaust shop fabricate a pipe to replace the pipe with the resonator attached - and mount it with bolts - this way if the sound is toooooo loud, even I - who has trouble deciding what hammer to use to hang a picture - can switch back ....
hmm, the milltek DOES N0T sound close to stock......

but anywho,
..i ran both a Milltek & a playmini w/out a resonator and it wuz bloody loud
the playmini wuz 2 1/2" (pipe diameter plus bigger canisters ) all the way thru so it wuz louder than the MILLTEK

comment on the Milltek
Milltek installed and I'm very sorry I wasted $800 doing it .. in my opinion, it's quieter than the stock. The installer talked me into installing it with the reasonator - other than having smaller cans, there's not a whole lot of difference.
The shop that installed it has a few ideas on getting it a little more lively ... I'll give that a shot - then talk seriously with MiniMeg and making a swap ...

Milltek problem resolved !
The very silent Milltek wakes up with the reasonator removed !! The "burble burble" is much more pronouned plus the thing sounds very very aggressive now when you run thru the gears.
I informed the vendor - Stratmosphere - who in turn contacted the Milltek people about my dissatisfaction.
Their answer is they're making a straight pipe of the same material as the reasonator\short connector pipe which eliminates the reasonator. People will able to purchase the system either way - with or without that added sound killer.
I must say that Milltek is very responsive to this problem .. and a word of caution to anyone contemplating an exhaust switch: pay NO ATTENTION to the sound clips online. They are not even close to what you'll get. Other than hearing first hand an exhaust you really like, you're shooting craps with cold dice when you buy an aftermarket exhaust.

How did you like the fitment? I got mine from Stratmosphere too and the coupling for the second slip joint is placed right where the underbraces come together. There's only one place for the bolt head to go....down. It hangs lower than anything on the car and gets hung up on the four post lift we have access to.
I put an email in to Stratmosphere last week to no avail. Perhaps a phone call is necessary as well as an email to Milltek. We are having issues sealing the joints too, but will give that another shot once we have the coupling sorted out. Worst case, I'll get the short pipe welded to the muffler inlet pipe so that only the forward coupling is needed.
To think we waited for over a year for a hack design. It makes no sense why it was put together this way, though the car drives and sounds better.
