Way to ignore a road on the Nav system?

Anyone find a way to ignore a road on the DVD Nav System? For instance say I'm going down a road and all the sudden I'm in bumper the bumper traffic (last week) and it took me 2 hrs to move 6 miles (last week) I want to go the backroads, is there a way to put in my destination address an ignore a specific road? As you can tell I got stuck in traffic and I wasn 't to happy.

What I do, as I am usually on a main highway is hit "Avoid highway route preference" Then it computes the way without the highway.

The ride back from Mass on monday was killer. I used that methos in Harrisburg PA and the 495/95 junction outside of DC.

The latest NAV version has a new feature to calculate a new route for the next x miles. I haven't played with it much, but it does what you are asking.

Actually the 'new route' option has been in that nav system for years, I had it in an older version and now the new one and find it handy on occasion for exactly this sort of thing - unexpected traffic , roadwork, etc. The option to choose route preference will have a big effect on the roads you take so if you find out which choice takes you to that road you can avoid it via a different route preference.

I use the new route feature all the time, especially when I am in unfamiliar territory and stuck on LA freeways. Just select "new route" and dial in a distance and it will get you off the freeway at the next opportunity and find you another route. You can repeat this if that route is backed up, etc.

While you are in Destination Guide mode (i.e. while it's giving you directions), hit the round button and you should see "new route" on the list. Hit that, and choose the number of miles (default is 5), and it will recalculate.

Just to be clear, the mileage you choose is supposed to reflect the number of miles you think you'll need to get "around" the problem.

For argument's sake, if you hit a traffic jam, and then hear on the radio that the backup is for 10 miles, you'd want to choose new route for 10 miles... after which the Nav will know it can take you back on that road again (assuming it is still the better path).

Glad you like it... am I right in guessing that you don't hate the factory Nav system as much as you used to?

It starts

to grow on you. But I'll tell ya after the last update that redid the graphics and everything I like it 200% more. It looks nicer, its easier to read, and seems more detailed so that was a huge factory.
