How many Whoppers fit inside? Can it use grill grease for fuel? Just like MINIs, Whoppers are built to meet YOUR specifications!

Um... now I'm hungry.

Yes off of 28 by Klines, out towards Linton Hall and close to the Prince William Parkway there are exits that get off right there by the parkway. Its a small airport for smaller airplanes such as single engine planes, small private jets, etc. Nothing really commericial like Independence Air.

EDIT: After the Ice Cream run we went right very close to it. Its VERY Close to the Burger King where all the Hot Rods and other cars go on Friday and Saturday nights.

Yep, it's actually quite busy too.

On top of commuter / general aviation traffic, there are at least two flight schools there. I'm not taking lessons there, but they are an FAA test center so I've been there to take my written (computer) exam.

There are small airports all over the place. Winchester, Culpepper, Front Royal, Mt Airy. But Manassas actually handles "real" jets and commuter flights.

Exactly! They are very busy, especially more during the summer time and especially on the nice days for flying! Also Fox 5 Chopper is based at Manassas Airport. There is also an Air Care Helicopter based there too. And there is always some different kind of plane coming thru at one time or another.

Nice pics of the planes there!

Is that first one a B-17?

The only downside to Manassas (for pilots) is that it is apparently where the FAA sends air traffic controllers to "retrain" when they mess up. From what I've heard that means they are sticklers, and very by the book when it comes to ATC. If you mess up, they WILL come down on you.

I haven't yet flow into Manassas (I'm still only a student, but I do plenty of solo flying out of Winchester). After I get my helicopter license completed (hopefully within a month or two) I'll likely take some lessons at Manassas to transition to an R-22.

Thanks, I can't remember if it was a B-17 or a B-52, for some reason B-52 rings more of a bell in my head.

No but I got to go up in the Fox 5 Chopper! That was nice.

And Dolmangar, I'm not sure about what you said. I'd imagine so though because when I was up in Fox 5 the tower made us look for a plane that didn't report back to another airport or something. But right now they are under going a lot of construction. Lots of more hangers are going in and a new FBO just opened (Next Flight - which is where my father works, Next Flight is where Jet Services used to be, my father also worked from them to. lol)

I often find the B-52s stuck in my head.

My comment is totaly based on hear-say. It's what I was told by someone, and haven't confirmed it. The person who told me is a professional pilot in the area, but perhaps his comments were based on the past.

I've been over to American Helicopters, and Dulles Aviation a few times. Like I said I'll probably do some training there sooner or later.

Yea you never know if its completely true until you experience it first hand. And its been awhile since I had been out there until recently, but the airport looks much better. Dulles Aviation and American Helicopters are very nice. It should be a good experience though. I wanted to get my pilots license and have my first solo flight at sixteen but I haven't even take lessons yet and I'm 18 now. I'll get it eventually!

And just to be clear, he never said that ATC was bad, just that they were very "by the book". I think the implication was that they were being closely observed and shouldn't deviate from the exact precedures.

A few years back I got two tickets to ride in the Goodyear blimp and I let my two daughters go. They said it was great.

During my trips thru Virginia, I kept noticing signs on I-95 and I-66 saying "Speed laws monitored by aircraft" - or some such wording.

Geezzz... you guys are serious about not speeding in Virginia, aren't you?

lol And if you think thats the plane that catches you speeding that would be great but thats not the plane the State Police uses. State Police uses a small single engine plane (Cessna) or a helicopter. And if you pay attention there is solid lines going across the roads and they time you from line to line. And radio down to a cruiser waiting ahead of you. And yes VA is serious about speeding and road rage/wreckless driving. *(I know a lot about law enforcement, planning on going into Law Enforcement and becoming a police officer.)*

PS here is the sign you were talking about but something funny added to it!

If you slide across the white line sideways, does it throw off their timing?

Possibly, depending if you are speeding 5 - 15 miles over but 20 + I think it would still be obivious you were speeding! Just speed in the beginning and slow down towards the end. Or the opposite. And its not like they line the entire high-way!
