Longest Item

Curious what the longest items people have fit in to their minis... I'm wondering if I'll be able to fit a package that is ~84" long.

Not going to happen. Tried to fit a framed poster in the back of a MINI yesterday. The poster itself was 3' x 4' before framing, so probably a little bit longer than 4' after framing.

It fit in diagonally (width), but even with ALL the way forward AND folded, it still stuck out the back, so that you couldn't close the boot.

If a 4' long (i.e. 48") framed poster won't fit, there's no way that an 84" ANYTHING will fit, unless it folds. Of course, you could stick it out the back of a car, tie on a rag, and tie the boot closed... but it won't fit with the boot closed, that I can assure you!

It depends on how far you are going - I once had a package at least that length placed in the passenger footwell and stikcing out of the sun roof with my passenger holding onto it. Obviously, if you're on the highway, the wind resistence would make that very unadvisable but on local roads it wasn't much of a problem.

We fit a big Lowes rental dolly in ours. I should have grabbed a pic but the upper frame was tubular and had a good 5 or so inches of free space in the middle. We layed it long ways all the way up to the toggle switches and I ended up shifting through the gap in the frame . That was a fun drive home.

I think we have a mission to compile a set of photographs of the oddest shapped, sized things that people wouldn't expect to fit in to a mini, example the xmas tree in the convertible

it is for times like this that I wish we had pop up glass. Came from a ford explorer so it was nice being able to stick things out the glass and just bungie it down.

That might be possible if you don't have a passenger. When I had my Borla exhaust installed on my old Cooper, I carried the one piece OEM exhaust home inside the car by putting the passenger seat all the way back and zip-tying the exhaust to the headrest. I don't know what the length of the exhaust is, but if your package's other dimensions are small enough, you might be able to manage it.

I recently brought about 6 - 8' (96") 1x2s home in my MINI. They stuck out the passenger window about 12"...otherwise they fit (boot was closed). I taped the lumber together and wrapped it so things wouldn't shift around or scratch anything.

I fit a full sized storm door int the back of Sting. I used string and the knock out for the rear fog light to secure the boot.

Hey! It worked!

Boxed 27" TV - managed to close the boot, but Jess had to drive home as I couldn't drive with the seats that far forward (she's 4'11", I'm 6'1"... hehe).

I fit a bike box in mine and was able to close the boot. When it gets back I will take a pic bringing it home. This is the first car I have owned where a bike box would fit, every other car I had to put my bike together to bring it home or ship it.

I've managed to wedge a Bone creeper in with the rear seats down and still close the hatch - the creeper is 47" long. Was tight though, had to move the passenger seat up some.

Regardless, remember to use towels to protect the interior plastic - mine is badly beat up from using the car as a pickup, hehe.

Boxed 27" Wega here... i drove because i was 4'11, and the ex was 6' riding shot gun. How ironic.

Although that's the biggest one thing i've fit in there, it's amazing how much stuff you can pile up in the back.

We were able to fit a DVD shelf from Ikea into our MINI. My husband had to sit in the backseat as we pushed the passenger seat all the way forward. We did have a *tiny* bit of room left. Here are the dimensions of the packaging.

Width:17 1/8"
Height:1 7/8"
Length:75 1/4"
Weight:42lb

lol, yah what I was trying to figure out if it would fit or not was a bookshelf from IKEA. I may be stuck just borrowing one of the SUVs from one of my cousins. Though I dread having to loan out my Mini in exchange :( Problems is I need to transport 2 bookcases and 4 cd shelves, which bolt in between the bookcases.

I was able to fit about a dozen 8' (96") long planks of wainscotting in my convertible. Simply opened the boot, folded one seat down, pushed the planks between the front seats and down into the passenger footwell then closed the boot. It was kind of funny fitting an item 2/3 the length of the car in the car.
