Interior/Exterior Bumper protection
Bumper protection
I know I saw this somewhere, but can't find it anywhere. I saw a rubber/plastic piece that you can stick on the back bumper to protect it from scratches. I've only had my MINI for 3 weeks and already have 2 marks from loading/unloading stuff into the boot. I see that MINI makes one, but it sounds kind of flimsy, I'm hoping there's a slighty heavier duty one out there.

i have it... too bad i got no pictures of it.. but it is a strip of plastic that goes over the rear bumper (partly i got it to cover up a nasty scratch on the bumper!
)
but so far it's wearing well... but its hard to keep clean, as it just about picks up ANYTHING that is on the road because of our little car's aerodynamics

Thanks for the input, I'm glad to hear everyone likes theirs. I don't see a MINI
logo on the image, but I guess it's just the angle or something.
I really wanted to stick with the pepper white bumper, but if it's going to end up all scuffed I guess the black piece is the way to go. I already have 1 or 2 marks that I'll try to get out before I decide on the black vs a clear piece.
I have a black one on my PT Cruiser and don't even notice it, but it does the job!
Thanks again,
Annette

A piece not much feedback is heard about! I ordered it on mine as I know for a fact I'd scratch it up if I didn't have it. I scratched the roof of my cavalier up all the time loading/unloading the backseat. I just have a habit of resting stuff on nearby ledges, which that bumper will be more than I can probably imagine.
For those who want the OEM one, the part number is 82 11 0 393 995. MSRP is $40. I don't have it myself, because the Invisishield equivalent installed via my dealer included a clear bumper protector anyway.
Here is another shot of the one available from the dealer. I am happy with it and am sure it will prevent the scratches I have seen on some older MINIs:

I have seen scratches lower than where it covers, so you still have to use some caution.

Thanks PPE for the pic. I ordered one from Classic and is has been sitting on my laundry room counter since it got here. I went out and kind of balanced it on the bumper and stood back and stared at it for a while. My son walked outside and looked at me, shook his head and went back inside
When I saw the special applicator tool and gooey stuff I decided to wait until I'm in the "picky" zone!
So was it a pain to get on? It really looks great.

BoCRon, I installed them on both of our MINI's in the past week. It really was easy and I think it would be difficult to mess up.
Clean the area, spray a bunch of that soap solution on the bumper then carefully place the decal on. You can silde it around on top of the soapy solution to get it just right. The starting from the MINI logo, run the squeegee thing back and forth. Until you get all of the soap solution out, It will want to stick up at the edges where it curves downward, but just be paitient and it those rear edges will stick down.
If I was closer, I'd just install it for you. . . .

Has anyone put one of these on a cabrio?
Some of the sites offering this claim that it is only for the coupe. I pressume that's 'cause of the boot hinges on the cabrio. but I was wondering if it would fit if I just cut out the cover to accommodate the hinges . . . are the dimensions otherwise the same for coupe and cabrio?
Need to know 'cause I already have a nasty scratch to cover-up.
