2006 JCW whp?

How much wheel horsepower does a 2006 mini have? The reason i asked is bc i have an 06 mini s and my dad loved it so much he just ordered one but he decided to go all out and get a JCW!! It sucks bc he is going to beat me! What mods will i have to do to my stock mini s to beat him? Thanks so much guys!!!!!

take a look at the thread I started today. about getting 200whp. Honestly I don;t think JCW is worth the money. if you want a ported head, there seems to be ALOT better companies out there.

I would recommend taking some time to read some of the MANY threads which compare JCW to aftermarket mods. There are hundreds of routes to go, and most of them will bring you to equal or better power than the JCW at a cheaper price. You sacrifice, _possibly_, your warranty.

I guess the basic list to beat your dad would be:
  • Lighter wheels and tires
  • 15, 16, 17, 19% pulley
  • GIAC or Unichip or MTH software
  • Whichever exhaust you like best
  • Whichever intake you like best
  • You could also check out Dinan for their stage 2 setup
  • Heck, there are lots of companies that do similar things, check them out too!
Good luck!

mb

exactly...there are many more options for stage building and you can get more HP gains from aftermarket than the JCW rip off build. But as the above thread states....you lose warranty unless you get a good warranty from your aftermarket build kit manufacturer. I have Kelleners stage III kit and it is warrantied by Kellerners for 2 years. Plus I get additional "warranty" from my tuner. It is all what you want and what you can afford. Too many options out there. But JCW is still a rip off!

The thing that is rarely mentioned has nothing to do with warrenty, but the ability to bring your car to any MINI dealer and have it fixed when you have a major breakdown (perhaps with the modded parts or not).

Most of the people who are willing to pay for mods aren't worried about paying for getting things fixed (if they are, they really shouldn't have modded). If you install everything yourself, you're probably able to fix the car, but often more complicated mods are installed by a tune shop. Which is great if you break down near their shop etc. But what if you have a major breakdown far away? Or the shop goes under etc.

The extra money you spend for JWC, is less (in my mind) about the warrenty, but more about the (hopefully) simplicity of getting it fixed with standard parts, with standard procedures, at a standard shop (dealer or not). If you have a highly tuned car, with third party parts, you have to accept the fact that you could get stranded with no fast way to get replacement parts, and know one able to fix the system you put together.

That being said, I didn't get the JWC parts because I didn't want to spend the money right now. And I have put third party parts on previous cars.

I used my G-tech only once to check HP on my 2006 JCW Mini and it was 178 at the wheels, my fiance was driving and I'm pretty sure she did not go to redline. The more interesting number was the 0-60 mph of 5.72 with a passenger-that's something you will have to worry about.
