That is cool. Anyone in CA brave using these yet? I've not installed my factory front plate yet...I've been putting it off....I wonder how long I could go and get away with one of these...of course it might be more noticeable than no plate at all....

Got mine from http://www.licenseplates.tv/ as well. You can customize your plate and see what it looks like before you order.

Good people to work with. Fair, honest and the plate looks G-E-N-U-I-N-E with all the decals.

edit: I even had a German fellow get on his knees to study my front plate one afternoon when I was waiting for my wife at a mall in Salisbury, NC. Even HE said it looked real...

Front plate on my '02 MCS. Don't have a pic of it on the '05 MCSC, but this gives you an idea.

I'm just a few miles south of you and I've got a euro tag and haven't been stopped... Of course my car isn't registered in CA, so I'm not concerned about the local CHP representive hassling me about it...

www.germanplates.com: This is one of the better deals I have seen for these plates. A couple of the other places I looked, the Euro frame was as much as these cost for the plate AND frame.

I was wondering about the mounting holes for the plate frame. Where I live we (are supposed to) have a front license plate. Will the mounting holes for the US plate mount line up with the mounting holes for the Euro Plates. I would like to put the Euro Plates on for car shows, etc. I figure if I have to have the holes there, I might as well get some "fun" use out of them. Does anyone know about this?

I picked up my standard Euro plate from here: http://www.minicooperplates.com/index.htm

I bought the Euro plate frame too. The frame has numerous holes to accomodate most US plate holes. My frame fits ok. I have to adjust it every-so-often. When I ordered the plate, I had it made with my actual license plate number (checkout my gallery)
Dunno if it's legal, but it looks cool

Yes, the holes are the same. Look carefully at the bumper and you will see two small "dimples". That shows where the mounting holes will be, and since the Euro mount has numberous holes and slots, you will be able to match the Euro mount with the bumper holes, which will be used for the stock mount.

That whole paragraph (above) can be replaced with one word.

"Yes"

Thanks for the info MiniMac2005 and Rev.Limiter.

I like the look of the Euro Plates and now just have to decide which one to get. There are a lot of similarities, but also several options. Decisions, decisions, decisions....

I couldn't get the plate builder to work on the www.licenseplates.tv site, but the one from www.germanplates.com look awesome. Getting ready to try the www.minicooperplates.com options.

I hate the big bulky plate frames, i like mine flush. Use 3mm double stick tape, you'll be suprised how strong that stuff is.

pic from a long time ago, not the best pics, but you get the idea:

i took mine of the front of my car, and am now running it on my rear hatch.
I'll have to get a pic of my rear.

I'm searching for a site I found awhile back but lost. They did the std euro plates but also offered a huge selection of non std plates. You could choose specific colors for backgrounds and lettering. You could also choose vehicle model specific plates, ie the MINI plate had little MINI wing logos in the background and one had the MINI logo in the corner where the EEC country code goes. I wanted one but never got it. Now I fear I'll never be able to find it again. Any ideas?

Framptons

I got a custom plate done by a place in the UK called Framptons. I can really recommend them - the owner, Steve was great to deal with, and would reply to emails within minutes, even when it was 2am UK time. It was $45 for plate, frame and shipping to the US, and as he's actually in the UK, can make you an authentic plate. Some of the plates I've seen here are a little... off, if you want to be ultra picky (I'm from the UK, so seeing a UK plate with the wrong font looks odd). Steve can also help out with picking a specific style or type of plate too, if you're after something a little different.
I got a classic style plate - black with white letters; I'll post pics when I can.
(No, I don't work for them, I was just very impressed with the service )

Ever wonder if Europeans think it is cool to put a US State plate on the front of their Ford Focus?

i really doubt it!! but only because it distorts the l00k of the car so much, theirs doesnt!!
it is funny how we want euro spec trims/style on our cars and they want US spec trim/style on their euro cars

Not that I ever saw a US plate on a US car in all the time I lived in the UK, but Framptons, the place in the UK I got my plate from, does sell US plates.
There's a pretty small market for American imports there, but I'm sure that if I was driving a classic American car I'd want a proper plate for it.

Besides which, I never really regarded Ford of Europe as a particularly American marque, odd as that sounds. )

I'll second the Frampton's recommendation. That's where I got my GB Eurotag from, and they were terrific to deal with.

I got my custom made tag shipped to me from them in the UK in less time than it takes Amazon to ship me a book in the US!

You were really just using tape in the front? Did they work really well?

I got my OEM UK frame/mount and UK front white plate, screwed the frame into the two dimples. Then 3mm trim double sided taped the plate on. (Had it made at the local (automotive store in UK) and had them put "merlin" on the bottom middle.)
