K&N Typhoon vs other cold air filters

I want to install a cold air filter into my 05 S. I've been told that the stock air filter can trap water and cause the engine to blow. I know and have seen the K&N Typhoon and it cures this problem. I've seen other cold air filter that are less expensive but don't know if they will cure the water problem. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

water in intake

I think if you check you will find it was the MC with a down tube, not the MCS with the front, and windshield tube that was catching water, If you drove in water some where near a foot deep.

There are many reasons not to drive a Mini in water a foot deep. Lots of places for water to get in, and any car can be carried away by a current in water a foot deep.

I'd look into the Alta intake. I was going to go with the K&N but almost every vendor I went to talked me out of it.

Be glad they did. I went originally with a Promini/BMP CAI. Just wasn't loud enough for me. Put an Alta CAI several months ago and just LOVE it!! The Harmon is rarely on. See my signature.

go with the HAI (K&N filter straight onto the Throttle Body....)

Search on "Hot Air Intake" and there's tons of information.....

I am very happy with my Typhoon. I personally chose the K&N because I have used them in the past and I like their technology and engineering very much. I was able to purchase my Typhoon used, so it was a very good deal. I have riden in several MINIs w/ the Alta CAI as well. When comparing the two, I would have to say the Alta and the K&N are very close in all categories except price. Comes down to dollars and personal preference I think.
