Prewired for H/K AMP????

Do 05' MINI's come prewired for the H/K system? I know most MINI's already come prewired for most options (i.e. MINI Alarm system).

Reason i ask is because i recently got to listen to my friends MCS with the H/K system and it sounded great and more than enough power coming from the mids and highs for me, but i would rather use my own speakers (Infinity Kappa's). If i could buy the H/K amp from MINI parts would the wiring and plugs already be in the rear access panel and i could just plug it in?

If so, does anybody have the part number for the H/K amp?

Thanx!

The H/K setup is a system designed to work together. So basically you want to use all of it, or none of it. That H/K amp is a tiny digital amp designed to work with 2 ohm speakers as part of it's system.

I have the H/K and I think it is good, not great, and in hindsight would have rather done a custom system with my own choice of speakers/amp/hu.

You will find a lot of info and additional links here:

Well the reason i bring this up is because to me adding an aftermarket amp is a HUGE PAIN IN THE ****. The mounting, wiring, cost......

So i was looking for the simple way out, i'm not looking for competition power and sound just enough to make me happy. I also am an avid autocrosser and have no place else to put an amp in the small confines of the MINI since i usually strip her bare once or twice a month for my events.

If the wiring is there would i be able to install some other small amp in its position?

Sorry, the wiring is very different without the HK. All speaker wiring goes to the rear with HK and to the center console with the regular system. There's no way to "just plug in" an HK amp.

At this point you are going to have to go the aftermarket route. You should be able to get a better sound then the HK, but just not at a HK price

Hmmmm thats really strange, the rest of the car has tons of prewired options its strange that they wouldn't have this already in there.

Oh well that sucks...... Like i said i know aftermarket would sound better. But i'm looking for an easy upgrade, not tons of yanking interior and laying wiring.

Since you don't want to blow the windows out, have you considered just replacing the oem head unit with a more powerful one? I've heard the stock, non-hk speakers being driven by an Alpine 9853 and it sounded pretty darn good.

It's got about 18 watts per channel, compared to the oem's 15wpc. Unless you feel that's not enought to drive the Infinity Kappas.

I know thats an option, but like i said i was trying to get some extra punch for not so much $$$. A decent powerful new headunit which i would like would probably be easily $200+.

Oh well.

I don't know of a decent powerful amp for under $150. Add wires, line out converter, etc, and you're close to $200. More than that if you don't do the install yourself. Of course, an amp like the Alpine 240 is rated at 40 watts per channel, but like you said, you're not looking for that much anyway.

I'm not trying to sell you anything...I'm in the same boat as you. Sitting with the non-hk system and trying to decide myself which way to go. Please keep us posted.
