Cam Shaft upgrade considerations...

I was thinking about getting the Schrick cam shaft for my MCS. What are some of the consideration I should take into account when adding this to my MINI? Better or worse MPGs? Better or worse throttle response? Better or worse idle? Do I need to have software changes to keep from going lean/rich? Etc.?

List of engine mods
* Twin-charged (SPI/MegaMini)
* Custom 3" Magnaflow exhaust
* Kingsbourne Wires
* Screamin' Demon Coil Pack (Pilo)

List of engine mods that will be going on car when potentially adding the CAM
* stronger pistons
* powerflex bushings on upper engine, lower engine, and gearbox mounts.

p.s. deltman, I got your PM...

I have a "street cam" and I wonder about the advantages and disadvantages of the "race" cam

Slightly OT, but does anyone have the specs of the stock camshaft? Just wondering what the Schrick is modifying.

shrick
Intake: Duration 264º, Lift 9.5mm, overlap 0.5, peak timing 114º, open at 18º, close at 66.
Exhaust: Duration 272º, Lift 9.0mm, overlap 0.65, peak timing 114º, open at 70º, close at 22º.

[edit] looks like stock is 236 intake 243 exhaust with lift around 8.5mm

Huh? I was unaware of two types. Do you have a URL for the two types?

I dont think there are 2 anymore, one was more mid range. They pretty much only market one cam for the S now. That is the one most people have, me included. There are no idle problems and it pulls pretty good. Its better than stock but it could be better.

Curiosity is killing me. Which type did they get rid of? Or did they make a new one and get rid of the original two?

For what it is worth...they got rid of the "street" cam and only have the race. RW says that it only makes a dif in the last few hundred rpm and just a few hp.........I wish some one from Schrick would comment.
