M7 vs. H-sport:handling

Before all you guys get mad at me and tell me that this has already been brought up let me explain. From what I've read the H-sports are the best handling spring and the M7s are the softest riding spring. I was always set on the H-sports but after seeing a car with M7s this past weekend I really want that kind of drop. So my question is this: How much better do the H-sports handle than the M7s? Is there even a noticable difference or is it so sight that you wouldn't be able to tell? Also I just ordered some Kumho Exsta MXs 215/45/17. If I went with the M7 springs I'm pretty sure this would rub, should I change my order to 205/45/17? Also just so you know I've looked through the whole H-sport vs. M7 thread:smile:

It'll depend on what kind of driving you'll be doing. Street? Autox? Track?

I talked with Randy @ M7 about this last week after buying some wheels from him. He said the M7 springs were made with a smoother ride, lowered look and better performance in mind and they do those jobs well in that order. So it the ride and the stance are your top priority get the M7 springs. I told him that I thought performance was top on my list and that I autocrossed often- He told me the H-sports would be right for me. I have seen the M7s too and the car looked perfect. I also heard they ride great so it all depends on what your doing and whats most important to you. You can also look at Webb in the FAQ, there is so good spring info. there. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I've looked at Webbs FAQs and it seems like Randy fully recomends the H-sports, I just wish they dropped the car a little more. This weekend I was lucky enough to see a car with H-sports and a car with M7s. The H-sport car barley even looked lower but the M7 car looked perfect. I wish there was some way I could get the best of both springs

If you want a relatively big drop and stiff rates, you might check out H&R.

Thanks but I think I'm pretty set on either the M7s or the H-sports because of the progressive rate.

I got the H-Sports, use them for street, autocross, and track days, and have been very happy with them. Slightly stiffer than stock, but not really noticeable, and they feel much better under heavy loading.

As of right now I just drive the car on the street(usually pretty hard) but Autox is something that I eventually plan on doing(I want to get in some driving schools before though). I know the M7 won't handle poorly it's just I don't want to get them and then regret it because I know that in the back of my mind I'll always know that if I went with H-sports my car would handle that much better. I just don't know how much better it would handle or if it would even be that much of a difference.

Call Randy at M7. Maybe he can give you a better idea as to how much better the H-Sports handle. The difference might be less important than you think. I have heard lots of people that were really happy about the better handling of the M7 Springs. If you are currently running only on the street you might want to get the M7s. In the future if you really get into autocrossing and feel that H-Sport springs would improve your runs, you could always switch them out. There are a lot of people autocrossing cars that are a compromise between good street cars and good Auto X cars. You are on the Street 98% of the time anyway and when you are first learning it's more about the driver than the car. I spent this last year autocrossing on RUNFLATS (they really suck) but I have improved as a driver. I'm getting the Hsports but I'm giving up the better lowered look for it.

I also say go for the M7s if you like the drop. IMHO handling difference between two are going to be very small at this point. Yes the driver is the bigger factor. If you put enough years on performance driving and want to improve the handling at that point, I'm sure you'll want to go with full coilover.
I'd also double check other's experience with your tire size. 215/45/17 is most likely going to rub with M7..

ah decisions, decisions. I have the M7's and like them alot. IMO they handle very well and are perfect for the motoring I do. During club runs and what not, the unfamiliar bad roads never fail to provide excelent fun. No rubbing issues for me running 215/45/17. btw, I always have my wife and son with me.
I won't lie, when I say that I'd like a slightly stiffer ride sometimes (like on looong sweepers doing 70+ ), but overall, I'm a very happy driver.

For Auto cross, I'd say H-sport because of the instant turn in, otherwise stiffen the rear sway bar some and I think the M7's would be just as good.

Just have to mention how I past my buddy Lyle going up 92 one time thru a crazy sweeping turn...he has hsports and just got new SO3's, I was on RSA runflats . We still don't get it....

Not trying to hijack the thread, but i don't want to start another one!! I've done some searching and I kind of had my sights set on the H-sports because they don't give that large of a drop. I was also under the impression that they will give a better 'cruising' ride because of their progressive nature. I guess people are comparing them to the stock spring??

In my book, i want a better ride, performance, and then the drop. I think the M7's drop the car too much and it looks slammed and not normal in my opinion. Any idea what I should look for or are the H-sports my cup of tea?

yes, sounds like the H-sport are for you. I've seen people post about the H-sport riding slightly softer innitially but the one person I actually know who uses H-sports says the ride is stiff all the time...

I have the M7 on my car and love the low stance (wouldn't call it slammed) and like the relatively soft ride around town and on the bad roads in OK in general - although in my opinion the ride is still stiffer in general over stock...

OK, now I have another question. Does anyone know of anybody that uses the M7 springs with Koni yellows. Is this even possible? Everyone I've seen that uses the Konis uses H-sport springs.

I'm almost positive you can use the Koni Yellows with any lowering spring, yeah.

Koni yellows are the shocks I'll eventually go with. Should be perect as I hear hsport/ koni combo is very stiff.

A little off topic in my own thread

I was looking around this morning and I found that mini-madness sells espeler springs for $160. I'm positive that these are the same springs as the M7s(or at least they are the company that M7 gets there springs from). Is there any differance in these two springs besides $55? I think I remember reading about this but I can't find the thread now.

Hey benthevegan, out of curiousity, I decided to call up M7 and speak to them about your question. The M7 springs are custom made for M7, and are calibrated to their specifications.

I just bought some wheels from Randy @ M7 and he couldn't be any more helpful. We talked for a while about this subject and he gave me a lot of great advice. I would give him a call if I was you.
