Remus Dual Tip Exhaust for Cooper Installed! (non-s)

Update 04/oct/2005: exhaust installed, see below for pics

Does anyone have this setup installed? I've looked around lots and it looks like only 1 other person in the states with a CVT cooper have this and posted on the forums about it. There is also a chap from England that installed one I think. (everyone else must have never posted a message about it)

From what I've read this is the same system sold by AC Schnitzer for the Mini Cooper. Their twin tip system looks exactly the same as this one by Remus.

Wonder what the difference in sound is like between this dual pipe system and the single pipe system on Gabe's Cooper http://motoringfile.com/exhaust/

Still debating if I should spend $100 CDN to get it done or buy an exhaust cutter for $30 and do it myself :P

Hehe, you're the guy with the CVT that I was referring to! Found your videos over by MINI2.com's CVT section.

I will upload some video clips of the difference between stock and the remus dual in a few days too. Right now there is a slight rubbing problem on the right exhaust creating a resonance, so I gotta get that fixed. The exhaust have a very nice deep burble at idle, its just slightly louder than the stock exhaust at idle. Nice deep growl from 2000-4000rpm, 4000+ it sounds very similar to stock. Absolutely no drone or noise when you're just crusing around, its just like stock.

Installation took about an hour from start to finish for my installer, there was absolutely no fitting problems to speak of on a 2005 Cooper. The exhaust hanger seems to be in the same place as any other 2002+ Coopers. The dual 3 inch tips look nicer than the stock muffler I guess

Yes I'd like to hear a asound clip too. If you can how about one from the inside at cruising speeds. That for me is a make or break on buying.

Cheers

Remus dual Exhaust installed! Video sound clip

Just installed the dual tip Remus exhaust. This kit is also rebaged and sold as the AC Schnitzer kit as well. Everything seems to be made of pretty good quality stainless steel. It is not a true cat back exhaust, the installation requires cutting of the stock exhaust after the cat.

It is extremely similar to the single tip Remus exhaust that many Cooper owners have, like this one:
http://motoringfile.com/exhaust/

It has 2 mufflers, the bigger one on the right side connects to a smaller one on the left. The exhaust tips are 3 inches in diameter with the Remus logo on top.

I have a 2005 Cooper and the exhaust hanger seems to be the same as any other 2002+ Cooper as well, so fitment was perfect. However, I do have to take off the spare tire because of the extra exhaust tip. It took my installer about 1 hour to install the system. Most of the time were spent on cutting the bumper just right and adjusting the left side tip to the correct angle.

Overall I'm very pleased with the system. It looks great, really enhances the look of the Cooper in my opinion. However it is a little bit silly to have 2 big exhaust pipes from a 1.6L engine The sound at idle is a nice deep burble, and I like the little popping sound when the engine revs down too. Surprisingly it is hardly any louder than stock. From 2000-4000rpm it does have a slightly lower tone and a bit louder than stock, and 4000+ it sounds pretty much just like stock. It has basically no sound at all on the highway, however it is a tad louder than stock cruising at 120km/h (75mph) due to the high rpm (3700rpm) the cooper revs at. The overall volume is within 10% of the stock exhaust system.

If you want a system that gives the cooper a unique look, and relatively quiet performance, this is a very good system. But if you're looking for something louder or something with performance gain as the #1 priority, I suggest something else. Butt dyno and my G-tech timer shows virtually no performance gain from the Remus exhaust.

I've been eyeing that system for a while now... one of a kind really... I just can't justify $600 to lose my spare tire (which has come in handy even with runflats!) Isn't there any way to keep the spare tire? I'm so glad someone finally put audio on here for us to check it out. Gabe's clips just weren't enough to satisfy my curiosity about the dual.

do you have an intake on your MC? I recommend the Moss intake... makes a bit of a growl when under hard accel, but quiet when idle or cruising. It really sounds awesome IMHO. And it feels like the car pulls much better now (could be the BLACK filter I took out though). I want to find a way to add a shroud to get the benefit of COLD air and maybe a bit of RAM-AIR boost at high speed Some day!

I've been researching a little for an intake, but I have decided to stay with stock. The reason is that I've seen a couple of independent tests of after market intake's filtering ability, and its definitely not as good as the stock paper ones. With the price of the after market intakes, I could just change out the stock paper filter with a clean new one every 2-3 months and keep the performance high and the engine clean.

I paid $400 Canadian (like $320 USD) for the Remus, install included, so its a pretty good deal.

WOW that's really cheap! Do you think they could ship me one for that price? It would really be worth the freight.

there is this one on ebay, the single tip
http://cgi.ebay.com/MINI-Cooper-1-6L...QQcmdZViewItem

actually this seller has the dual tip too, for $600 USD, yikes. And their feed back rating is a little low
