mth header and file

I was looking at getting a header here i a few week then getting the mth tuner software. I was looking at the obx header because i have header its a good header for a decent price, and now i am reading that minis are getting about 140+ hp with the mth header. My questions is will i get similar gains if i run the obx with a 400 cell cat or is the mth header that much better?

i was wondering about the same thing. the OBX HEADER is a copy supersprint racing header that requires modification of your stock cat to be smog friendly... the mth header IMHO is what should had been placed on our MINIs from the factory.. 400 cell cat is the closest you can get to stock ]cat with better flow...

it seems like most of benefit from the header indeed will probably come from the specific tuning from MTH programing.. i do not think you will be able to get that special file unless you get the header with it..

Are you sure? I would assume that you can just tell them that you have a header and they would tune accordingly. It would be cheap if you needed to get their header in order to get the tuning.

That being said, i really wonder how different the 2 headers could be. I highly doubt the difference is big enough to make sense of the price difference, but who knows.

i dont know if turner file that is tuned to your OBX header vs the mth-specific header file IS or IS not the same.. i'm thinking it would be different.. the gains seen on the Mth official thread seems to indicate a greater benifit..

mayb MTH is saving the best tuning for their own products?? Tradiuz??

You can get just the tuner file. The HP claims are high due to the German Dyno #s not reflecting the equivilent #s here. They are making a special offer to anyone in the Houston area to get realistic dyno #s (The US dist. lives in Houston) The header they are offering is a 4 into 1 which will show higher HP #s (most likely near redline) A 4-2-1 should show higher torque #s. The twincharged Minis do just fine with the stock Cat.

CNred Did you mean 240 hp?

Thats true....the MTH header will be more HP and the OBX will be more torque.

240 hp thats a lot for my cooper but i sure would like it. Is the header/tuner file from mth even more tuned then the tuner file? And as far as more torque that definitl sounds good to me, because getting the car going is the hardest part for the cooper.

Its sorta more tuned in that it will take into account a header....but the tuner file is able to do that if you have one already. In the end, its the same tuner file....just pre-mapped for their header. And because they have been able to get their hands on that specific header, its presumable that they know everything about it and are able to match the MTH perfectly for its job.

I agree with you on torque. The 4-2-1 seems like it would be a better set up for our coopers. Chances are, if you are doing performance driving with the cooper, its on tight auto-x courses or on twisty roads. You want your power/torque to be lower in the band and able to get you going when you throttle out of each corner. But maybe the dyno will show that the MTH offers some nice torque gains as well....we will have to see
