Dawn and Zaino

Will washing my car with Dawn remove my multiple coats of Zaino?

I have got some kind of tree sap all over my car (very small little drops) and was hoping to use Dawn to remove it, but don't want to strip my coats of Zaino off if I don't have to.

Or does anyone have a better idea on how to remove this crap from my MINI?

Did you try using Z-6 on the sap droplets? I've found that it will remove them as long as my base Zaino coats are in good shape.

I can't answer your question about the Dawn. You might try calling Sal for a quick answer though.

I've always been under the impression that Dawn DOES NOT strip Zaino. I'm no rocket scientist, but I was a research scientist (Chemistry, Food Science, Genetics and Molecular Biology) and I've had more than my fair share of chemistry, organic and biochem courses. Honestly, I can't figure any reason why it might do so. Polymer sealants generally require physical removal (read: abrasives, polishing or clay-bar) or organic solvents (read: strong alcohols, paint solvents like prep-sol) to remove.
Dawn DEFINATELY STRIPS waxes and other lipid-based materials from the surface of the paint. Both the alkaline nature and the heavy detergents in Dawn take care of that.

I have a product from Turtle Wax that does a great job at removing tree sap... It's called "Bug & Tar remover". Unfortunately, it is chock full of the organic solvents (and abrasives) I mention above, so it will definately strip away your Zaino.

If you are a true detailing freak like the rest of us, you were probably planning on topping up a few coats of Zaino this weekend anyway, so it's no worry anyway...

I believe on the Zaino kit it says before starting Zaino, wash with Dawn to get rid of remnants of wax and other junk... And not to use Dawn after starting Zaino.

How bad was the stripping Kaelaria? Is it an obvious difference?

Yes the instructions do say that.

It went fine. I had to do it, because I wanted to start over - I had some uneven coverage and some areas I needed to clay again.

It's amazing how 'sticky' the bare paint is, you can't even run your hand over it.
