Rubbing noise at low speed.
Rubbing noise at low speed.
My 2003 MC recently started making a scratching noise that is audible only at low speeds, like when starting to move or when coming to a stop. The sound is like something rubbing against the tires or rotors or something. Took it to the dealer twice. They removed and cleaned the brake drums ($350 CAD
) on the first visit, then replaced some noisy bearings (covered by warranty) on the second. Needless to say the noise is still there. They said that the tires (I have 16" run flats) are worn out and hinted that could be the problem. I'm going to get the replacement tires put on Monday. Ordered non-run flats based on what I have read on this forum - BF Goodrich Traction T/A. Hoping that would fix the noise, bcause that does drive me nuts at times.
Anyone had similar problems that was fixed by changing the tires?

If it is coming from the rear, look at the rubber covers that go over the bottom of the struts. One of mine came loose and was dragging on the wheel. It drove me NUTS until I figured out what it was!
