Looking at aftermarket wheels for a new MCS in 15x6.5, 15x7 (w 205/55) or 16x7 (and 205/50) with a somewhat period look to them. Rota Auto-X, Circuit 8, Group N, Konig Rewind, and one Enkei. Can anyone cast a positive vote for these manufacturers wheels' strength? None, I believe, are forged and all are somewhat lighter than stock wheels.

Also, what're y'all doin for spares if you're ditching the run-flats? Are you packing fix-a-flat goop and a compressor? Patch/plug kit with CO2 cartridges (like motorcyclists)? A mini spare? Hope? Prayer?

i love my konigs....havent hit any HUGE potholes, but havent had any problems either. Seem pretty strong

and in terms of flats....i carry my cell

 

I have the Konig Helium, which is not the Rewind, but of similar construction. I use them for daily driving and autocross. My daily driving is over cobblestone streets (not smooth) and 2 train track crossings (not smooth) and the occasional mid-size pothole, no problems so far.


As far as no spare - I carry tire goop, an air compressor and a cell phone.

 

Enkei makes OE wheels for many manufacturers including Honda
and even Mitsu's Evo8.. so they can build high strength wheels.
not sure if the ones sold at DiscountTires is the same quality
though....

 

Enkei also makes OE for Toyota(some wheels)

I can vouch for rota quality ..Their plant makes numerous OE wheels as well..

Also on a side note my friend was pulling a prank gone wrong in his honda and well hit a curb pretty hard(more like 30-25 mph).. The rota was still intact . Also there may be a rumor around about subzero's breakign for no reason...That's because there was a molding problem about 2-3 years ago(in an old batch a long time ago...But if you had an affected wheel send it to rota and they'll send you a new one ..Rota Slipstreams, attacks, and Subzero's have proven themselves many times in IT, SCCA, and HDPE events.. Really good stuff :smile:

 

I have some konigs and hit a medium size pot hole and bent the rim pretty bad. So I will not be going with konigs anymore.

 

So far, I have bought two sets of aftermarket wheels for my cars (my MCS and my SUV), and both of them are Enkei. Reason I chose Enkei is they are in more unique design and not that expensive when compare to other brand. Overall, quality, build, price and look are quite balance on the scale.

Enkei is Japan brand, widely used in Japanese car market as some of the folks here posted. The two sets I got are made in Philippine, though not Japan made, but in good quality, and well packed in shipping box. Also, I bought both from discount tire.

 

what size were the wheels?

 

I have Konig 'Holes' in 17X7 on my MCS, 10K miles, no problems and they fit over my new TCE front brakes without spacers!

 

My Rota Subzeros have held up very well!

 

I've had two sets of Rotas on my car, never a problem and no complaints. Well-built knockoffs of more popular and expensive wheels. FWIW, I have no first-hand experience with Konig, but a few friends have run them and they've all bent easily.

 

At 66,000 miles, my Rota Circuit 8s have seen plenty of abuse, including what was the worst street venue I've ever seen - Detroit! (Sorry, Chad & MISFITOY!!!)

There have been times (especially in Detroit) when I hit potholes at such speed that I just KNEW I'd have a bent wheel and probably a blow-out.

The Circuit 8s have been phenomenally resistant to bending, especially for their under-12 lb. weight.

I come from the subaru world and owned a set of Rota subzero in gunmetal with polished lip and absolutly love the suckers. I am so happy to see they are now offering them for our cars! will the 45 offset for the 17x7.5 be fine for a stock 05 MCS? Can i get the hub size made to fit or do i need to buy rings? Any fitment issues in general or rubbing?

the Rota wheel which fits the MCS is the Slipstream ... no hubcentric rings necessary.
this wheel matches the stock 16" by 6.5" MCS wheel and will not push you into another class if you do SCCA autocrossing. Any other size wheel will put you in a street prepared class - where you DO NOT want to be.

I'm using the Rota Slipstream - 16 by 6.5, gunmetal with polished rims and looks very nice. bolt pattern is correct at 4 by 100 and offset is 45mm. Hub measures 56.1mm.

I have the Enkei RPF-1 wheels (17x7), and have been impressed with quality construction and excellent eye appeal. That model is a bit harder to find, but well worth the search! BTW, I got my wheels at Dynamic Autosport in Lake Forest, CA.
