Factory H/U plays MP3s?

Okay, perhaps a dumb question, but my wife usually drives the MINI and I dont' get out that often.

Question is: Does the factory non-HK H/U on a mid year build '04 MCS play MP3s from a burned disc? I've never bothered to check, and the manual is in the car (parking lot is a LONG walk away) and I have an MP3 collection in my office, and, well, if it won't play in the car, I'll leave the disc in the office. Otherwise, I'll have a happier 40 minute drive home.

TIA!

Bill

I think that is only on the '05 HUs.

Yeah i dont think 03 or 04 plays Mp3's. I had put one of my mp3 cds in that has like 150 songs on it and it wouldnt play.

Thanks - didn't think it would, but never hurts to ask. . .

I'll check out the MP3 capability on the '05 H/U in about, oh, 5-6 weeks if MINI ever sees fit to ship our new one!!!

Expect your new 05 Mini non-HK head unit to play mp3s.
Do not expect it to display artist and title.
Good luck with you new ride.

Hmmm - what about an '05 HK? We're getting a Cabrio, so the HK is standard. . .am I STILL gonna be MP3-free?!?

2005 Cooper H/K Head Units

do play MP3 files, but they also sort alphanumerically when you insert the disc, so if you want the song order to match the album sequence, you will need to change the mp3 file names to be something like 01-Something.mp3, 02-All Your Loving.mp3, ect...

There are mp3 file utilities that will do this.

Also the H/K head unit will recognize folders so you can separate things that way ...

The stupid track display will say meaningless TR01-04 ect where the first '01' is the album or folder number, and the second '04' is the song number

Have fun with the new car

I have an '05 MCSC. It plays MP3s, whether organized in the root or in sub-directories. However, it does not display anything but the track number. It does not display the track name, it does not display tags, and it does not display the subdirectory names. It will use numbers for the folders. I have not figured out if there is a way to skip to the next folder (album) other than by scrolling through the tracks. But it does play either CD-Rs or CD-RWs without any problem (VBR APS or APX).

if your 2005 MCS is like mine, Classpro

you can skip and jump to folders by hitting the M button between the <M>'s on the radio itself, then the < and > buttons on the radio or MFSW to jump folders. Then you have to remember to hit the M button again to scroll within the folder on the files themselves.

iTunes and MP3 Burning

Just as an FYI -- iTunes (at least in Windows) will burn MP3 discs in Playlist order -- the numbers are added to the file names automatically. No folders, however.
