I just noticed the outside tire edge are turning blue..
there's some significant wear because of the autocross and I'm been running about 35psi on Falken Azenis RT-615s. 215/40/17s
anyone know what is causing this and if it is okay?

 

This might be a dumb question, which you have already checked out yourself but I have to ask. Are you rubbing on the inside of you wheel wells? I only ask because you are running a wider tire.

 

track tires (r compounds) do this all the time from the heat cycles. You are fine, worse case maybe loosing a little grip.

 

Slow down and it won't happen any more. It is from heat due to friction. Eventually they won't stick so well.

I have never seen this happen before.. Hopefully I'll wear out the tires before it causes any problem.. Looks really funky as I have blue rings around the edge of the tires..

 

I was wondering if you have adjustable camber or if you are running stock camber. You probably know this already, but with stock camber you will run on the edges more when doing aggressive driving. After doing a track day my tires were showing more wear on the front outside edges and were getting blue and oily. This is why I want to get camber plates, to at least reduce the outside wear and get a bigger contact patch.

 

I have stock suspension except for a bigger rear bar.
I'll be getting an alignment soon.. I'll have to see how much camber I could get front and back.. I definitly need more camber.. It is probably set very loose from the factory.

Uknow i noticed this b4 when i saw it and was going 2say something about it but forgot, looks like its a oily blue film like the last post said.

 

The tires look pretty normal to me for having done autocross. Looks like you stayed on the tread and didn't roll on to the sidewall.

The heat from the friction brings the oil in the rubber to the surface and turns the rubber bluish and the oil evaporates. Eventually they dry out and get slippy. How fast depends on the rubber compound and the number of heat cycles and how hot they get.

I am sure people on here who do lots of autocross have a good eye for this.
