Favorite car wash or detailers for Mini?

--Where does everyone wash or detail their Mini? Does anyone have any recommendations or warnings to post on certain car washes or detailers? Please do tell. I'd like to know if a certain place was NOT Mini friendly. Thanks everyone.

I've never had mine done, though I really need the inside done. The upholstery is kinda dirty. I usually ust do it myself, but this is a good thread...any suggestions anyone?

I would gather that automatic places that are not handwash places should be avoided. I'd be afraid of scratching.
edited to add---Has anyone used the dealership for their "Spa" packages?

i thought i read somewhere not to use any automatic car washes anywhere, unless it's "brushless".

as for detailing...haven't, yet. from the guys at work, i've heard capone's mentioned. if i get my mini detailed, it's gonna be including the clay bar + treatment so that the paint is glassy smooooth.

not sure what the "spa" package is at bmw/mini. but i'd guess it's a bit more $$ than outside.

Detailing advice by Tweety's Owner

Besides going to a carwash (not many to choose from that I would trust)

Think about coming to our HMMC 9/4 MINI at the Moana event (Ala Moana Park keyhole area) for a short talk by Barry (owner of Tweety) on how to detail your MINI like he does inside and out.

I just saw the new detailing and car wash center next to costco Waipio but it costs something like $15 to $29 to wash your car- extra deluxe of course.

I always wash by hand, it's my pleasure.

This is gonna sound hard to believe, but the car wash on Kapiolani, near the Blasedale center only charges MINIs like $8!!!!! Thats a wash and clean in and out. Its all about the size of the car.

Did I spell Blasedale correctly?

my information is a bit old ... but last September when I was getting ready to ship Lucy back to the MINI motherland, I got her detailed at the BMW spa. Pretty much got the works - clay bar, wax, leather conditioning. It cost a lot but they did a really good job, so it was one less thing to worry about when shipping Lucy.

And - hello to everyone in Hawaii! Lucy and I are having a good time in England. We did a driving tour of Europe in June (Lucy has a Nurburgring decal on her boot now  ) and next weekend we're headed up to Scotland with a friend. We're taking a ferry tour of the Orkney and Shetland Islands. Lucy sure does like motoring around on islands! We miss Autox, but the twisty, narrow country roads here pretty much make up for it. I hope y'all are doing well.

Aloha,
Angel 'n' Lucy

if you folks look in the latest BMW of Honolulu newsletter, there's an add for the Spa.

$269-$299 seems a bit over priced?

how much do packages cost at da midas touch? i always wanted to stop by to see if they were any good....

Midas is @ 1/2 the price at BMW. Put it this way, I have a friend that works there and he goes to MidasTouch.

Detailing......

Midas Touch Detailing at the corner of Ala Moana and Piikoi charges about $60 for cars on the average.

White wheels are EVIL!!!

:impatient Okay first I thought I had a stress crack on my rim but I was able to buff out the nasty black grooved stuff and now the phantom crack is gone. But geez what was I thinking ordering a black car with loads of chrome and white wheels?!!! What was I smoking?

I think I need the Midas Touch. Thanks dabluemini and everyone else for your suggestions. Don't worry I will stay away from all automated car washes.

White S-Lites SUCK!

Aloha folks-

1- I HATE my white S-Lites. next time I get wealthy they are HISTORY!
2- Made an appointment for Midas Touch on Friday to get my MINI cleaned for the LCC Family Fair on Saturday. I opted for the 24K max job at $120.00. I'll let you know how it went. I have seen some of there work and it looks like they do a really good job!

Aloha!

child labor violation

--Heehee I made a little league baseball team clean my wheels today. It was only 5 bucks and they were just around the corner from my house. I rolled up and said, "howz about I pay full price and you guys just wash my wheels?" They said "OKAY!" Half way through scrubbing my wheels they said, "I thought they were grey at first!"

Anyway they did a great job on the wheels and they wouldn't stop until I gave them my approval. Cool little kids. My wheels are now sparkling white again despite these past weeks rainy weather. They even toweled off the back of my car too and made it shiny again. I knew the MINI wax was still under there! I tipped them another $5 for a job well done. They were so happy because my car was so easy to clean and get around with a hose.

Right as I was leaving an Escalade rolled up and the whole team said, "oh no" as its shadow darkened the sky for them.

They are the Cardinals (St. Louis?) and they had an upcoming game in New York to play in. Hope they kick some butt up there!

Aloha folks!-

Got my MINI cleaned up by Midas Touch a couple of weeks ago. For $120.00 they did a pretty darn good job. There were a couple of things I noticed when I got home:

  • Wax residue in the Cooper badging and around the front grill area
  • Small dressing smears between side molding and body panels
  • Could have done a little better job in dusting around dash and gauges
Nothing major and it only took me about 10-minutes to fix.

All in all they did a great job for the price. The wax job was excellent and they cleaned up all the black marks on my S-Lites.

I’m going to make an effort to get my car detailed there at least bi-annually.

Aloha!

Any other recommendations? I'm looking for a cheap outside/inside wash with or without wax.

What about self car washes where I can go to pay a small fee to use water/vacuum and do the washing myself?

Try Atomic Performance on Kalakaua. I think it is $25 for hand wash and wax.
