What is up with people?

It never fails to amaze me how many people want to prove how fast their cars are. On my way home cruising around 65 I pass a 02-03 BMW 530 all blacked out couldnt even see the driver. The car is lowered has some kind of aftermarket exhaust. All of a sudden he pulls up right behind and starts to tail me........so close I couldn't even see his headlights. I was thinking ok so he wants a closer look at the car. There is a car on the side and in front so I had to stay put. The car in front changes lanes so I pull ahead thinking this guy will back off......NO! I do this several times and he's on my tail........snik....snik...snik I downshift from 5 to 4 to 3........I take off. I got 3-4 lengths ahead of him he tries to chase and but could not pull on me.........my exit came up........I was hoping he would take the exit and show him what the MCS is really about.........no luck He went straight. What is up with people

Save it for the track or autocross. In my area our modded MINIs eat just about everything in sight as long as the track isn't too long and we aren't running with track only cars with double to triple our HP.

Anyone that tailgates you isn't worth your attention. Ignore them and slow down more- go the speed limit.

Just be happy to know that the other driver probably pays twice or more what you pay for insurance and gets half as many miles per gallon.

Enjoy your ride.

That would BE a very expensive insurance company...! I pay 2 times what my friend pays and he insures 2 vehicles... granted not minis but... still!

Maybe not. I pay $360 every 6 months for my modded 03 MCS. Yes my insurance company knows it's modded.

The story was in SF about a modded 03 BMW 530 possibly driven by a young male (not sure who it really was due to illegal dark tint). Urban areas usually have bad insurance rates and if you get tickets or accidents it can be really really bad rates.

I find what really drives me nuts is when you're on a regular two lane that splits into another lane that allows for you to pass, and the person that was driving sowly in front of you the whole time decides to speed up just to make sure you can't pass them. Then when the lane merges he\she slows back down! I don't care if someone passes me!? It's nothing personal you know.

I motor over the limit all the time when on the open highway, about 10%, thats what the mounties give us.

When some fool comes up my tailpipe, and does not pass, when the passing is good, I pull towards the shoulder, if the fool still does not pass, I let right off the throttle.

Not worth my while getting into a tiff about who is in front of who.

Besides, I'd rather they be in front and clear the deer.

Idiots like that should be ignored, period. Not worth putting your meat in the line of fire to "prove" someone else that your car is faster/better than theirs, specially on a public road.

I pay over $600 every 6 months for each one of our unmodded MINIs here in Miami and those are the absolutely "lowest" insurance rates for customers with 0 fender benders or accidents. South Florida pays the highest rates of car insurance in the nation, because of our current crop of terrible drivers.

The reason your friend gets really good discounts is because he has multiple cars on his policy. I pay about the same with my two Minis as my girlfriend does on her Accent.

Brilliant strategy!!! If you follow reasonably close you can also be in their "bug-shadow"...saves you wash up time.

My insurance for '05 MCS in Alberta is $1086 USD per year (with....clean driving record, no accidents, no insurance claims in past 6 years).

be careful who you play with...

Mom, son shot after road rage incident

You never know what kind of defected person you'll run into on a day when they forgot to medicate themselves. It's just not worth it to respond to the inevitable aggressive motoring violation anymore. Being a well seasoned MA driver (that has lived in the city from the article for most of my life), it's a natural second nature response to shoot the dbl bird along with my rehearsed barrage of insults toward driver's mothers and sexual preference. But, I've had to exercise a good deal of restraint lately. It's just not worth a confrontation with a gun.

When they tailgate that close I like to touch the brakes and put the accelerator down all the way. Watch them slam their brakes and eat my dust.

Since I am almost always in the upper percentile of speed on a given road anyone who blasts up on my tailgate is either looking for trouble or just plain crazy. When it's convenient for me I let them pass. If they dont pass after such a maneuver, I will often get back in front of them and 'leave my troubles behind me'. My fun comes when I head for the exit ramp or roundabouts with someone attached to my ***. I take the ramp at 10/10ths and watch the show in the rearview.

Wait, I'm sure none of those could be MINI drivers ....

Oh wait, I forgot those people who get bent out of shape because their spouse or GFs dented their precious possesions. ....

I had a TL A-Spec following my MCS the other day with Colorado
plates. after stopping at a light I just mashed the gas of the line
and he could not keep up. I started to cruise at speed limit then this
middle aged man in his $40k car did a ric0r -flyby
unbelieveable.

I suppose he really needed to use the restroom.

I had a guy yesterday tailgate me closely for about half a mile while literally driving with his head out the window yelling at me. He was upset because I had stopped to let someone cross in a crosswalk, and then flipped him off as he tried to pass me on the right while I was stopped there. He was driving a maroon Saturn.

Same thing happen to me on the way home, it was about 8:30PM and I was doing my own thing doing about 70 when a Lexus IS300 started to tail gate flashing his light even, so I gave him the lane but just started to tease me a little by reeving and just plane annoying so I down shifted to 4th from 6th to get away. The faster I went the more he got crazy he followed till I got up to a higher speed and that's when he backed off and when I finally slowed he just gave me the thumbs up and left me alone....I know that it wasn't the smartest but then again don't mess with the little guys. Like I told alot of my friends that has fast cars that MINI means SMALL not SLOW!!!!!

What's the title of this thread?. Oh yeah ... "What is up with people ..."

Whats up with people who think it OK to go so fast on the public roads and is proud enough of it to actually publicize that crime publically on the Internet. Did you tape it to?

Seriously, dude, SLOW DOWN. Don't get sucked into this crap by wannabe. It is NOT worth your life or the life of others.

It can be tragic and sad.

Remember folks, the goal is to get there safely, not first. Leave that for the tracks. Seriously. You're taking others lives into your hands when you do that stuff on public roads.

"and the chorus said...."
