Pipercross?

Has anyone installed either of the Pipercross intakes on their MC? If so, how about a quick review/opinion. I am thinking of trying to fit it to my '05 MCc, since no one seems to be rushing to the market with an intake for the '05's.

I have been using a Pipercross for 2+ years. It's a great intake, nice sound at WOT. The car breathes right up to redline. I have also treed the green twister. Similar performance with a bit more agressive sound.

That would be great. I would love to see that.

For both of you: Which intake are you using? Regular or Viper?

MyMini CAI #2

I'm running a mymini CAI #2 which is like the pipercross S Intake using a ITG filter and I have zero complaints.

Myminiparts.com (peter) is just finalizing a new CAI w/ ITG filter that is an "enclosed box" - taking air from std source and the vent below the window but keeping engine bay air out. You might want to chat with Peter to see when it will be available. Good guy and good parts.

That sounds like an MCS set up. I am looking for MC.

I am using the regular viper. I don't think you get any benefit by going with the CAI viper setup. Lots of extra money. The Green Twister I have is a CAI setup and I don't get any difference in performance gains compared to the pipercross.

I did lots of testing with the stock airbox, stock box with a drop-in foam filter, Pipercross, and Twister. I did multiple runs with each setup and measured with a pocket dyno device.

The Pipercross and Twister showed between 5 and 6 hp gain over stock. The drop-in filter from Moss gained 3 hp. This was not done an a "real" dyno, so the results are good for comparison only.

Runs were from 0-60 shifting at 6000 rpm.

PS, I'll sell you the twister if you are interested.

What's a Green Twister? Any links so I can check it out?

I think it's made in France. Pilo Racing got a group buy a while back. I don't see it listed on their website anymore.

Here is a link Green Twister If you speak french or german, you can find some European sites.

It's a nice filter, and sounds great. I think I paid about $180 for it.

It didnt even really fit many of the earlier cars, i think that was the consensus after the group buy a while ago. CVT owners couldnt even close the hood (bigger tranny mount) and 5-speed owners said it rubbed a little.

www.Mini-madness.com still carries them though

In terms of pipercross....i had the non-viper. I bought it way back in 2002 when it was the best intake anyone had ever seen for the mini It's all anyone could talk about. Obviously in 3 years things have changed. And i have moved away from my pipercross. I cleaned it yearly....when i went to clean it this year the foam had split on one side where it had been glued together by the company. So i needed to buy a new filter. After much wondering i ended up getting a K&N typhoon. My thinking was that there was no garauntee that the next pipercross wouldnt do the same thing and rip (viper uses the same element but with a CF cover) so the million mile K&N warranty was a big kicker.

If you are just getting the pipercross to wait until the 05 intakes come out, than go ahead....i LOVED it for the first 3 years (which is a long time for an intake) What about the engine bay makes intakes not fit? Will the typhoon fit?

While I haven't tried it myself, my understanding is that die to the new Getrag trasmission the mount is in a different place. If you compare the two airboxes they are shaped differently. Thus, the mounting brackets on the typhoons no longer fit. I know some guys here on NAM made them fit, but I am trying to take the path of least resistance. I don't want to chop, or mod the filter and I don't feel like dealing with rubbing issues. I don't mind waiting for a new part. It just didn't seem like it should be that hard. But, oh well. There are plenty other things I still want to buy.

Love mine and I have had it for a little while now. The polished alum is nice looking to me and the sound of the supercharger zining along is great.

(sorry I just seen the MC and not MCS)
