R50/53 get fog lights?
get fog lights?
I'm about to get a new S and was thinking if I should get fog lights. I don't really care about them but I heard if I don't get it. The car looks ugly because it's covered by something else? What do you think?

if its fogs and you didnt order them, they are replaced with two black plastic thingys... dont look attractive, but isn't exactly ugly.. i just replaced the fog slots with a new set of fogs.. at least now there wont be two holes!
if you didnt order driving lights, then the front is just empty, devoid of the mounts... nothing moore
Get the front and rear fogs!
Here is why:
* Added safety/visibility
* Car looks cool. If you don't order the fogs, specially the rear, you'll get a VERY UGLY and cheap looking black plastic cover in the center of the rear bumper.
* They are failrly inexpensive as ordered from the factory.
* You'll get a full working 6 toggle switch bank!

The 'ugly' thing you've heard about is probably the rear fog cover - arguably an ugly blanking plate. That alone can be fixed for a few dollars by getting the red lens, whether you have the rear fog or not.
Aesthetically for me, a full toggle rack is a must. It's a bit silly, but we are all allowed our follies. The tips of those toggles also light up unlike their neighbor toggles. Definitely added cool factor.
As C4 notes, they are also an enhanced safety feature, especially if you travel much - never know when you're going to hit a fog bank or poor visibility.

Yes, the tips of the toggle switches for the fogs light up
Green light for the front fogs
Orange light for the Rear fog lamp.

Also it is much better and cheaper to order front/rear fog lights from the factory vs an post-delivery dealer install. The front fogs are $150 and the Rear is $100 installed from factory.
Compare that to $600+ just to have the dealer install and enable the rear fog lamp

IMO:
You definitely should get the front fog lights, the factory font fogs work great and would be ugly blanks if you didn't get them, keeping in mind you will have more work involved to add them later than you would to add a light to the rear.
If cost is a factor skip the factory rear fog, and get a $30 brake or back up light to fill your blank in the rear.

I would definitely go for F&R fogs for the safety factor, plus the toggle bank looks much better when it is filled, IMHO. Another solution to fill the toggle bank, if you're handy, is to get some toggles from someone with extras ( I got one from Iancull) and install them yourself. They will click up and down but will not function for anything. I did this on my 03 and it looked great!

Originally, I got the rear fog lamp just to avoid a gap in the switch panel, but I find that I use the rear fog lamp more than the front ones.
In my early morning commute to work, I often drive through dense fog. I use my low beams so other motorists can see me. One morning, I came up a little fast on another car that didn't have a rear fog lamp....hmmmm
After that, I started using my rear fog lamp in dense fog and in heavy rain. It makes it easier for other drivers to see me.
We get a lot of fog in the early morning, and very little at night. Once I encounter some nighttime fog, I'll use the front fog lamps.
