That manual transition into 2nd gear...

Sorry for all the recent Q's but I need to know...

In my parking lot I drive very calmly and take it really easy on the gear shifting and yet when I shift into second I can hear the gears engage -- albeit briefly but almost to the point of wondering if I have an issue with the transmisson. I don't think I do but I thought I'd ask. I drive with the windows open most often so I hear it pretty well. I've made it a point to "test it out" by purposely pushing in the clutch early and making sure it's fully depressed before going to 2nd. Still the very small engagement noise.
Anyone else? TIA.

Dave

The Getrag in the MCS is notorious for "clunking" or "meshing" noises (At times) when engaging second gear. Better get used to it. The Getrag is a fantastic and sturdy gearbox but tends to be noisy. As long as the car moves forward with no fuss, there is nothing to worry about. Nature of the beast.

Same as above. I usually take that "clunk" going into 2nd gear as the true indicator that Fafner is ready for that retina seperating rush to redline.

My cavalier has a getrag (5 spd) and it makes the same sound so it is just not Mini.
