6000 RPM redline is fine for a diesel, but...

It's too low for this 1.6 liter to make much power- unless it's turbo or supercharged. I don't want either of those, or the hood scoop. Does anyone know this engine enough to tell me how to get at least another 500-1000 RPMs out of it? My 600cc motorcycle engine revs to 14000 RPMs and makes about the same power as my Mini! I realise the stroke is a little long and the bore is too small(for bigger valves), but I'm only asking for a typical high performance engine's redline. My old BMW 2002 made more power and had a higher redline with 2 valves per cylinder! -Jeffy.

P.S. I still love you if you have a supercharger. All Mini's are cool, new or old!

emmm if its a Mini ONE D it is only a 1.4 Toyota engine,
I know that if you go with a MTH remap you can have the rev limiter moved up

It seems to be capable of giving more, even after only minor mods...

It is pulling well when it shifts(cvt), so I think it could benefit from more RPM's, especially after some more easy breathing mods. Mainly port work. I just need to make sure that nothing threatens to fly out of the engine. -Jeffy.

You also need to be aware that the manufacturer of the CVT says not to increase torque or hp on the engine as they say the CVT was not designed to take additional power from the engine. Some of this is just being safe to keep from being sued, but I still would not add too much in engine upgrades. A little is probably alright (how much no one knows), but if you add a lot of power, the CVT may break.

Diesels don't rev to 6000.

A lot of factors enter into setting the redline on an engine. I'm not an expert but have read enough to know that piston speed and reciprocating mass are two of the big issues. Your bike can do 14000 because of smaller light weight pistons and shorter stroke. Still, maybe someone else can tell you if 500-1000 is OK.

Thankyou Ran 48 for your response...

As for you guys who actually took the time to list their diesel redlines, check out the latest Dodge truck Cummins. I have a diesel truck myself. The point was not about diesels, it was about getting more RPMs from the Cooper engine without blowing it up-it's a way to make more power. I wanted to draw attention to my question with the referral to diesels, but I'm looking for responses I can use, not useless rebuttals. After a while, I'm going to know these cars, and I will respond with helpful responses, not comments like some of these. -still love ya 'cause you drive a Mini, Jeffy.

Well, my 2005 5 spd MC seems to lose power after 5500rpms... It feels like it would do better in the next gear, plus any extra power you make in those super high rpms is lost in the akward-near-redline shift from gear to gear...
Just my experience and perspective...

Anyway, if you could make an extra few horses near redline, what would that do? Why? In a car that handles so well, a few top end horses are not as valuable as more low and mid range horses or torque.

I would like more HP in the usable 3000-5000rpm range, now that I could use...

Good luck in your pursuit of power, and don't let the "you should have got an "S"" stuff... If we all wanted power we would have bought a lot of other cars...

-Steve
