Look who I found on Carmax.com

She cleans up so nice. I miss her a little every day and hope she goes to a good new home.

They are asking $17.5K for her.
I'm a little choked up.

Thank goodness for my brand, spanky new S out in the garage.

I thought you sold it to a private owner? Did they give it to carmax... or did you originally sell it to them?

Whoa, that would be a little surreal, for sure. True, the only cure for a MINI is another MINI. I hope the people who are buying up these MINIs know that they were celebrity owned.

Yes. I became tired of people trying to rip me off and also of the stress of having 2 cars in the parking lot outside when I could only afford 1.

I'm wondering if the left my taillight tint on. Best guess would be no.

Nifty how carmax exhibits the car with complementary background curtain. Makes it look like a car show sans gawkers and hawkers. Have a great road trip to SouthCal.

Indeed! Driving L.Mini's MINI is certainly more prestigious than driving, say, Madonna's MINI, at least 'round these parts. I mean, it's like driving the Pacer from Wayne's World, or James Bond's Z3!

L, would you mind posting how much you sold the car to Carmax for? I'm curious as to what their profit margin is, and it would probably be useful info for others weighing their selling options.

Thanks, guys. You are awesome.

Earl...I'm moving to Ventura.

And I sold the Cooper for a little over $14K (I made a little over $1K on the sale). It's less than I would have gotten if I had sold it to a private party, sure, but the fact that there was zero hassle attached to it and I could relax through the process made it worth my while. They took care of paying off the car also so I didn't have to do another thing once I dropped it off with them.

We sold our '02 to Carmaxfor just over $14K, they said they would have paid more for a CVT With what we owed on the lease, the tax we did not have to pay on the lease, we ended up with about $1500 in pocket.

It was listed a couple of weeks later for $17,998.

I bought my 2004 MCS from Carmax on July 1st. They erroneously advertised the car for a ridiculously low price ($16,998) and had to honor it. Works for me

As everyone has said, Carmax is low stress when buying or selling a car. Sure you don't get as much for your car as you could if you sold it privately but can you put a price tag on your time and patience? I have never had a better car buying experience.

37K. And we had just paid for the first non-free oil change.

Carmax here in Miami is a blatant ripoff. Back in February, I brought my '04 MCS with 17K Miles to them for a free appraisal. Obviously, they loved the car, but was given a lowball offer of $18,500 cash for it, which matched the dealer trade in offer.

Decided to sell it on my own and found an eager buyer that took the car home for $21,900 cash. I made $3,400 over the Carmax and dealer offer. Glad I didn't fall for their lowball offers

At the time I owed $11,700 to the bank for my '04 MCS. If I had sold the car to Carmax, I would still had $7K worth of positive equity. But by selling it myself, I increased my positive equity to over $10K cash

I gave $10K cash downpayment for my '05 MCS and financed the rest for 30 months!

looking at the prices of MINI's with the same mileage, year, and options of mine... it makes me feel REALLY good about what i paid for mine.

My experience recently has been similar in that what Carmax offered and the trade-in offer from the dealer were nearly identical (in fact the dealer offer slightly more). The value of the car is significantly more than this and it will sell shortly for $4000+ more than Carmax was willing to offer (I have 2 serious buyers in as many days since posting to CARS.COM and inside my local club).

I completely agree that Carmax does make the selling of your car fairly simple, and for that they should be commended. The process they use for valuation is no different that the dealer, they check what similarly equipped vehicles are bringing at auction (not eBay ) and that's what you'll get offered.

The difference could have been in the mileage then. Mine had 45K when I sold it.

The reason I didn't want to go through the dealer was because I had an owner's option lease with the last car and went WAY over the allotted mileage. (As in 8K miles over.) The overage charges for mileage on MINIs is pretty astronomical, so I would have ended up owing them a ton of money and having to roll that into my car payment. This way, I avoided that entirely.
