R50/53 body-colored dash
body-colored dash
I saw a body-colored dash on an electric blue. It looked great, but didn't seem to be quite the same color as the body. Do those of you who have body-colored dashes notice a difference between the body color and dash color, or were my eyes deceiving me? Also, how do you like having the body-colored dash? Does it hold up well?
Thanks in advance

The funnny thing about the metallic paints...is sometimes they look off even though not the...for the first week after I got my arches and aero kit painted I would stare at the arch and the rear fender and swear it was way off...and I mean one was more blue and one was more green...then I realized the front end was painted with the arches so the paiont had to match...and sure enough it had the same effect....for some reason the arch...whether it being the angle or what it was reflecting looked off...but if I got them both in the same light it was all good...
since then I have looked at many others to see if they have the same effect...and sure enough...even the dark siver with painted arches looked so different I couldnt' believe it
so chances are that's all it was was the lighting and refection

My CR dash also looks spot on and I love it, but it is not metallic. As Tuls said, metallic paints are funny. The angle that you look at it and the angle the light is hitting it can really change the color. Since you will rarely have the same lighting on the interior of you car as on the exterior, it is really hard to compare the colors. I used to work at an industrial paint manufacturer and anytime we made metallic colors, you couldn't even rely on a computer to tell you if its the right color. You had to stick something with the color you were making and what you were matching it to in a light booth and tell visually, which was really fun b/c different sources of light (fluorescent, daylight, etc.) made it different colors. Half the time if it was sunny, we would get about 5 people to go outside and look at the color panel sitting on the ground and everyone would give their opinion on it from different angles. I hated working with metallic paints.
Because of this issue, I prefer to not have a car with metallic paint b/c touch-ups also tend to be rather noticeable, particularly since a slight difference in the amount of metallic flake used can really change the look

I gotta tell ya my '05 electric blue Mini-S has a matching e-blue dash with factory chrome rings and it looks fantastic...night & day. Metallic paint always looks different and is hard to match but man it looks good...night & day. But, you have to keep the car clean to get the metallic paint visual pop.
Same here...I have an EB with body color dash and it looks fantastic! Can't say I've noticed a difference, but I haven't looked at it too critically. It's held up great for nearly 8 months and 19,500 miles. I did wince when my boss tapped on it with his fingernails. If he wasn't the boss...

The reason why the color may appear to you to be ifferent has to do more with the light that it is being viewed under. The body is fully exposed to daylight or even shop light doesn't matter. The darker environment of the interior with numerous other items providing bounce light will effect how the color looks. It would be near impossible to make a dead-on match.
