Drove over something... need new exhaust.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I drove over something fierce on the freeway. Got the car looked at today, might need a new exhaust. I'm not well versed on this stuff, but according to my mechanic, it's the pipe from the engine to what appears to be the cat. So what are my options? Should I go aftermarket or stock? Do all aftermarket exhausts fail smog tests? I need opinions as soon as possible so please any help would be greatly aprreciated. Thanks you guys, you've always been a big help!
By the way, I have a 2003 MCS and I live in So. California.

So the cat or downpipe was not affected right?
If you are referring to the exhaust pipe (after downpipe) it all depends on how much you want to spend.
Getting a catback exhaust can range from $550 - $900 maybe more.. If you want to remain OEM/stock, I'm sure many NAM members here still have their OEM exhaust (like myself) after replacing it w/ an aftermarket one and might sell it to you w/o you having to pay lots of $$$ from the "stealer"...
I am not quite sure if getting an aftermarket exhaust will fail smog.. I mean, only thing your doing is deleting some back pressure... If your mufflers were not affected at all, and only the exhaust piping, I'm sure you can take it to any muffler/exhaust shop, and they can probably just install a new exhaust pipe..
Good luck

Ooops I guess I didn't read the first post carefully..
It does sound skrutzen is talking about the downpipe... but when he used the word exhaust , he can also be talking about the exhaust manifold?..
