I was just at my local supermarket (They call it "Superstore") and noticed somebody stocking the shelves in the toy section. I wandered over and low and behold, there were 6 Matchbox Hero*City Collection #65's - a yellow/black roof MINI Cooper S.

This is the first I've seen of a current version MINI from Matchbox in my area so I took one and put it in the shopping basket and went to do the rest of my shopping.

When I was finished, I thought I might get another one and give it to one of my colleaques at work who also owns a MINI. But I was surprised to find them all GONE!!! It was not a busy time as it was rather late at night.

They were removed from the shelves. The other models of Matchbox cars were still there...even #64 and #66 but no #65.

Good thing I grabbed one earlier. So I paid for my groceries and the Matchbox car and took it home.

Anybody want to speculate why they were all removed from the shelf?

no idea.. i got number 65... also found a Black with white roof miini and the indi Blue with white roof and stripes "S" model recently

 

Be on the look out for indi Blue w/ white roof and no stripes while you're out and about. Pic's are in the Diecast Thread.

At first I was thinking you bought Micro-Machines (remember those commercials with the world's faster talking man? ), but a MINI in Micro-Machine form?? How small would THAT be?!

 

Remember that MINIs don't like hanging about - they prefer to be motoring!

 

I also noted that the MINI on the Matchbox website has definite side mirrors cast that stick out. Mine doesn't seem to have them.

 

The LY/B Hero City MINI is old. I found a bunch of them in a dollar store about a year ago. Bought all 10 they had. Most likely, that's what happened to the others on the shelf.

 

Just found this Matchbox MINI Cooper S in a metallic blue, white roof, white bonnet stripes (see photos). Bottom is stamped 2003, 1:56 scale. Paid 88 cents at Target (bought all 2 of their stock), then found 2 more at Toys 'R Us (98 cents). Even found same Matchbox series at grocery store, but no MCS. Bonus prize is a 1"x1" pirate subject photo/graphic that changes when tilted.
