Why is there a bug inside my brakelight?

How? Why did it go there to die?
These are the questions I asked myself upon noticing the dead bug inside my brake light housing. Anyone else get critters in there?

Didn't you go for the optional vacuum sealing?

Once, I thought I spotted a small marmot crouched in my brakelight assembly.

But now I think not.

It's a new car. It takes a while to get all the bugs out.

Uh oh, you better not let customs know! Was that bug declared at the point of entry? It could be a mutant bug some guy in England put in to come and invade the US

I'd like to think I would notice such a thing as a dead bug in my brakelight before nearly 8 months of ownership...but alas, I only just found it the other day. I'm assuming from everyone's responses that this had to have happened at the factory (meaning there was no way it is an American bug who recently got in there somehow). And if I'm not about to disassemble my brakelight to get into the assembly, is there any chance of removing this bug from his coffin/my brakelight?

Seems as if the little critter wanted to check out your cool car and passed away from fright on one of those twisties you took him on..... Sorry but I can't help you on how to get him out...

That will never work. In the US one must vacuum.

It's a simple task nicole, just remove the boot panel on the appropriate side, unclip the wiring harness, remove one bolt from the LONG screw in the middle of the assembly, and then push in the black tabs at the top and bottom of either side (pushing one side should do it.) Upon removal you can release the light holding bracket by pressing on the plastic retaining clips and you should be able to shake the little bugger out of there. Then take it to an entymologist and let us know what type of bug it was, so we can be on the lookout!

Short of the bug crying out 'beam me up, Scotty!' that's the only way the critter is gonna exit the scene.

If you want to drive to Santa Cruz, I'd be happy to take care of it for you.

Obviously you are the inquisitive type and one easily shaken by such a grim discovery.

Clearly the bug was attracted to MINIs, there can be no doubt or that. Who can blame it. Perhaps it chose your MINI at random, perhaps not. Maybe it was looking for a suitable home. In any case it probably died happy, I'd be sure of that.

Actually I'm not that sensative...I have a collection of bugs under glass and even some jewelry (rings) with bugs in them. I decided to keep my new dead "pet" since he's apparently been with us from the begening.
