Obsession Beyond Belief

I don't think I'm alone here...

About eight months away from ordering my Mini and I just can't wait. So, what did I do on a beautiful July 4th? Go to the beach? NO Go to the park? NO. Have a cookout with the family? NO.

I took a 55 mile drive to a closed Mini dealership just to look at the locked Mini's outside!!!

I've got it bad... right??

Glenn

Glenn....you have come to the right site! I did the same thing when I waited for my first MINI! I went to the dealership AT least weekly until mine was delivered to visit the Motoring Advisors and sit in the floor models!

For many weekends (about 3 months-worth), hubby knew that every Saturday and/or Sunday we would be driving to a MINI dealership to inspect the very few MINIs on the lot (this was in 2002). It was so much FUN!

I can't even imagine an eight month wait. I had a hard time waiting eight minutes. I walked in, saw the EB Mini with all the options I wanted and yelled, "DIBS."

I admire the patience those of you who elect to order display.

If mine wasn't more than 100 miles away, I'd be hanging out a few times there aswell.

Even way back....

When I was 16, we used to drive out to the Valley (15 miles) just to look at a '67 Austin Cooper S that sat at A.J. Ripley Imports....when I committed in '02 to the process of getting a new one, I visited most of the L.A. dealers every week, just to see the cars in person. You aren't alone......

8 months away from "ordering" your new MINI? That's an interminable time period. But you must have your reasons for waiting so long. 2007 model? And then you will have the other difficult and long wait--the production, shipping and delivery phases. But being on the east coast you should have shorter lead times for delivery than west coast NAM folks experienced. No? Perhaps no consolation to you, but we've all been through it. The wating builds character. Also please note that the current production make is MINI (all caps). Mini is reserved for the much revered original car. Good luck.

dems good cars - well worth the two month build/shipping time we went through for ours. At least you have a plan A for buying yours, now you need to come up with a plan B and take some time off that 8 month timeline.

Yeah, then the excitement wears off, you start drinking too much again, and within 6 months WHAM! You're bored to death with the car.

Ah, life can be such a *****.

Huh?????
Not me....I still run down to my MINI dealer for visits and frequent the forums to see what's new. But I think I like DRIVING my MINI more than drooling over the floor models now.

Naw....the obsession is just beginning. 8 months away from ORDERING??? Is that going to be a 2007 model you're getting?

Glenn,

I can relate! I was actually good to go until I test drove a Mini. The same day I test drove two turbo cars as well, both faster than the Mini in a straight line. At the time, I said "Wow" to the turbos, but once all the test driving was over and I went back home, I found myself wanting to go back and drive the Mini again.... not to find out anything more.... just to drive it. I actually couldn't explain exactly why. It was just so much fun, so well put together, such a good fit in so many intangible ways. As far as the other cars, they were fine. But I could live with or without them. The Mini, on the other hand, was a different story. That's when the bug bit me.

Thank you all for your comments. Now I know I'm not alone!

The reason I have to wait is because I have an existing lease on a Saab that I have to get finished. If I order in April, 2006, it will be a 2006 model with delivery in June or July I guess.

It will be a MCSCa. Leaning towards HB and black... but I seem to change my mind on the color a lot...

It is really something to look forward to. Really a life changing event.

Best regards, Glenn

Yeah I dont really see anything too out of the ordinary with your actions compared to mine...So in my opinion, you are normal. I went to my MINI dealer on sunday instead of monday but was very disappointed to find that they only had automatic MCS on the lot! Anywho, I have the same order dates as you do only because I am saving for a hefty down payment so I am right there with you on the torture of the wait, but IMO, it will make that day when I get to sit in and drive my MCS home that much more enjoyable...I CANT WAIT!!!!

I was thinking HB/B as well but I switch back and forth between that and PS/B. Also I wanted to see what the new blue is going to look like along with the new royal grey...I hope those two colors are not only going to be available on the special editions for 2006???

Changing one's mind about the color selection is classic!!! HB/B is a beautiful combo......keep us posted on your final selection!

Pretty normal behavior for a car freak!I also stopped by a dealership that was miles away from me, on the 4th. But it was open!

I am also getting HB/B, w/Black stripes. Maybe I should change that if there are too many others percolating on order...

I love to chat with the new enthusiasts and let them know that we are all that nutso in the beginning!
