To those who answered the Mini/no probs...

I respect you for your candor and taking the time to answer, but what don't most of you understand about "no" problems? It doesn't state mini owners with minor problems, mini owners with one problem, mini owners with just windshield problems...well you get the idea.

Don't people comprehend anymore?

Just thought I'd ask.

I was the one person who understood what you were asking and until 2 months ago would have answered your thread about the perfect running MINI because I owned it.

But MINI was nice enough to ruin my 02 MCS at my last dealer visit. See the “does your MINI stall” thread so I didn't respond.

No offense... but you don't have to be ungrateful about it. These people did take the time to respond and thought minor problems were close to none. It's not that hard to sift thru the thread and determine what information you need. Shezzz.

There is no such thing as a perfect vehicle. perhaps you need to
learn what car ownership is all about. No thanks to you, Ive wasted
my time again. i'll never respond to your questions ever again!!

I comprehended this statement from the OP:
"Even if you've had some issues that you've managed to have reliably resolved, please feel free to fill me in on those as well. Thanks!" So from what I gather from the post, the person is looking for positive experiences with the MINI. That was my outlook when I replied, anyway. But threads like these do tend to turn into a gripe fest. I started one on MINI2 nearly identical to this one a long while ago, except I was just looking for others to brag on their problem-free cars. And the same thing happened to that thread!

No problems means no problems...as in :

"I have had my car for over 2 years now and have only been to the dealer for rotuine maintainance."

If it's a new car off the dealer floor, it's nice to expect that you won't have to replace a main seal, power steering fan, seat latches, sunshades and broken rally lights. While the problems I may have had were due to an '02 build, I know many owners that had no problems whatsoever. But if the car goes in for a warranty repair, regardless how small - I still view it as a problem.

Geez, I think we all answered to what we consider to be little to no problems. When the car has only been to the dealer for scheculed maintence, and they fix a small recall item/ or other known item, I don't consider that a problem. As for drivability, the mini has never been a problem for me.

Cars that have been:
Toyota 4-runner - bought new had to replace heads ...shop three weeks = problem.
honda civic - bought new - passanger seatbelt didnt work, tranny went out shop two weeks = problem
Ford Bronco II - tranny went out twice = problem
Ford F350 - lost 2nd gear pulling full horse trailer down Tioga Pass in California Very Dangerous = problem
GMC Sierra - Radio sometimes worked, speed sensitive steering would also randomly go out... very dangerous = problem

Cars that havent been:
Current 04 toyota tacoma - never been back to the dealer = no problem
03 Cooper S - Only back to the dealer for scheduled maintance, fixed while there, coolant bottle and recalled suspension bolt. Never affected drivability or reliability = not a problem

What one person considers a problem, may not be to the next. Read thru the posts, you decide.

I think we still comprehend, its up to you to decide whats useful.

Nik

Fred3 must be in law school

I've had my '05 since September 23, 2004. Now have 22,000 and she has been problem free - only in the shop for her oil change. I do have a nasty split in my windshield on the passenger side, but I heard and saw the rock blast the black edge of the window.

My other ride is a 2000 F150 XLT w/ the 5.4. My first "problem" just occured at 160,000 miles when the alternator went out. Easiest repair I could imagine. Cost about $150 with a new belt and did it myself. Only been in the shop once for the 100,000 mile tuneup.

I consider myself lucky

Mike

The only people that can answer and say they have NO problems with their car, don't know enough about the car to identify a problem. EVERY car has SOME problems, fact of life.

Fred3...
being a newbie to the world of MINI (not new to old Mini) I just purchased a 2002 S....I understand what you are asking.
but being as Ive only had my car for a couple of weeks I dont feel like I know much yet...
I know what you mean, you dont want cheerleaders of a brand you want honest experiences and I think most did that...but I think you wanted them to talk you out of doing it.
They responded what more did you want??? theres no reason to get snippy...
no one can make up your mind for you about a car purchase, you gotta either s h i t or get off the pot YOURSELF no ones going to knock you off (unless you have a wife you ask for permission to buy things)..."you" have to make the move.
I went for the MINI because I needed a compromise and I was driving a 2001 Beetle as a daily and had toy cars but i cant do that anymore, I can only have one car, I use to own MGs, Minis & other assorted Brit mobiles so the new MINI as a daily driver works for me, its the best of both worlds ...

No car is perfect, if you want reliable youre going to have to buy a boring Honda or whatever car that Consumer Reports says you should buy...
if you want something that is unique then get the MINI.
You may also want to look into the Audi or the Beetle also.
good luck,
db

Picked up 05 on April 29th, just shy of 6,000 miles as we speak, NO Problems. As you can see by the miles on the car I don't have time for a long post. Must drive now!

No problems = 0 cars!

Nothings perfect. Some will complain that the hood gap lines are off by a percieved fraction of a milimter. So, is saying "I know this is within spec, but I want in better still" reporting a problem? Or an improvement? Why do you think that defects are listed by things like # per hundred cars sold? that gives you an average. And no, nobody gets a 0.
There's also the problem that for enthusiast cars, people are picky, picky, picky! So the fact that something happened may dissapointe a Mini driver but wound't have bothered someone who thoght the value of the Ford Taurus is the best in the world!
What about the problems not caused by builds? There goes another slice of the car driving population. Really! Learn some statistics.

Also, there were recalls for faulty coolent overflow tanks, and two evap emissions systes items (SW and a line). So ANYONE with any of these cars (I think this was everyone up to and including 03 builds) is out of the picture too!
Most of the 05s don't have serious milage racked up, so what does that data matter either!

I guess everyone figured it would just be nutty to ask for the short list of either perfect cars, or comments from people who either don't notice or care about what they do notice and consider it a problem. Now, if you're doing research on what people assume, or what they're threshold of what is percieved as a problem, I apologize for my rant!

Matt

That is my thread you guys are talking about. I thought I was pretty clear about what I was asking for and I feel like the responses I got were great. No complaints from the original poster. Thanks again.

fred3: Its not even your thread dude! Take your posts back to your Yugo forum or wherever and stop insulting the intelligence of the kind folks who took time to provide information to SOMEONE ELSE'S questions.

I agree.

Like I said, I don't have a problem with any of the responses I got in my thread. After re-reading here, it seems like people think the same person that created that thread created this one. I made that one; fred3 made this one. I don't know why fred3 seems to have an issue with the great answers I got.

Sorry for any confusion guys. I'm grateful to everyone who took the time to respond to my thread!

I think most of us were aware of Freds thread jacking. Glad you got the info you were looking for(Which most of us understood) except maybe ----. Some people got nothing better to do.

Out of Fred3 own post Quote: pay only scant attention to negative posts as they are rarely driven by logic.

I second that

The only problem I've had with mine is rattling door panels from the harman/kardon. Had it in 6 times to be fixed and but a new rattle always comes back in 2 days

And my windows and sunroof are starting to squeak now put its no big deal.
