Does anybody know where you can get a screen for the intercooler to keep the bugs out?

 

I have one, but someone in our club had a template and cut them out of "chicken wire". They are pretty easy to make, once you have the template. I don't know where he got the template.

I used the same guide to build my own, works great, left mine silver though...go to home depot and ask for the gutter guard stuff...not expensive at all

 

I also used the same guide but I bought the black plastic guard next to the aluminum one. works great, no problem with engine heat, and no paint chipping. Matches other black honeycomb trim nicely. For the template, I just took a piece of paper and traced the intake cowl.

The only reason I haven't done this is the % of the open area this stuff blocks. I don't know if you want to restrict the airflow over the IC. I'd be worried if the screen blocked more than 10% of open area.

That was the one of the things I was worried about. The best screen material I've scene is the screen in front of the radiator on my J.D. lawnmover. It is removable for cleaning, the squares in the screen are probably around 1/8 inch and the bars in the squares are very tiny which shouldn't restrict air flow. I got a call from BMW/Mini last week and they asked if I had any suggestions for the engineers and that was one of the suggestions I had, was kind of surprised to get a call from the Corporate Hdq.
